Whats Your Opinion On Games With QTE's?
For those who dont know what QTE is, it stands for Quick Time Event and is a method of context sensitive gameplay in which the player performs actions on the control device shortly after the appearance of an on-screen prompt.

I personally dont like them, especially when you have to mash the button numerous times to get anything done, to me its a real put off as i like to look after my equipment without it being worn down even faster with the constant button pressing and damaging it..... Plus its kind of boring :/

So people what are your opinions on it?

They contribute nothing meaningful to gameplay. They feel more like a check to see if you've nodded off at your desk than a test of skill or reflexes.

I don't mind them, just don't use them for Boss Battles 'n such.

I find them annoying, especially in boss battles and cut scenes. They don't really serve a purpose in my opinion and, depending on where they are added in the game, can completely break the flow/immersion of the game.

I like some of them, for example the quicktime events in Resident Evil 5 and Deadly Premonition were quite enjoyable for me.

I don't mind them if they don't stop / slow gametime. If they totally stop the game and you have to mash to get some bar to the end then it just destroys immersion, though if it's mashing keys whilst dodging or controlling something in real time, then it's not so bad in my opinion.

QTEs are just another example of "cinematic gamedesign".
They exist solely to create the illusion of control over what is basically an ongoing cutscene. QTEs might still count as interactive elements, but they don't have anything to do with proper gameplay because you are never actually in control. There is no dynamic action, just two predefined animations for either success or failure.

When watching an actual movie, have you ever thought to yourself "Damn, that's a cool scene! I wish I could mash a button right now to make me feel like I just did that!" I bet you haven't.

I have no problem with the "press x" not to die to block a baddie, or hit a single button to do a certain thing, or such since that is pretty normal gameplay mechanics... But the whole "elaborate set peice, press random buttons and rotate joysticks while a cutscene plays for over 5 minutes" kinda thing, needs to go away. It is like movies with subtitles where I end up spending more time reading the words than I do watching the movie. They go through all the trouble to make an epic fight scene or story scene just to have me miss it entirely as I look for the next button prompt so I don't have to repeat it 15 times... It can really kill immersion in an otherwise great game too.

I really hate the ones where I have to change my hand position on the controller or keyboard to mash a button so hard, and so many times, that I either need a "turbo button controller" or have to rest afterwards because there is no possible way to do it comfortably... Especially in horror games, it seems jumpscares and button mashing has become the order of the day, and it isn't scary, it's just plain annoying. Hell, how would someone with an arm or hand injury even play it? It is just like "motion controls", a stupid gimmick that needs to die.

Some games are so bad that modders will make "trainers" or mods that either disable the QTEs or hack them to allow a normal person, one NOT high on cocaine, to progress through the game.

I wish QTEs were banned from videogaming entirely.

It's okay in a Telltale game like The Walking Dead but in some other games it is so bad. :D

Telltale is at least fully aware of the fact that they are making interactive movies. David Cage could learn a lot from these guys...

If too much, they are annoying. When you have to open every door and window with QTE spam (see the Thief)

No i havent as to me when watching a cutscene, i like to focus on what is being done or said without having to press a button in the process of what ever is being done and put off the story/game :/

I don't mind them. But... has someone played the first Assassin's Creed for NDS? If I remember well almost every boss you have to beat you have to do it normally, but the last one is just a simple QTE. And the easiest QTE I've seen. Disappointing, and funny how there was a boss in the middle of the game who was more entertaining to beat than the last one.
I mean, I don't have any problem with QTE except if they're stupid, like this one.
