Why amiibo are horrible products

Note: I made another forum talking about the horrible amiibo support in Super Mario Maker. The one person who commented led the topic to how bad amiibo are. And he's right which is why I'm making this thread.

I'm not lying when I say the best thing about amiibo is having a nice figurine of a Nintendo (mostly) character for around $14. The problem is that amiibo are marketed for the in-game content they provide. But almost every game that uses amiibo does it horribly. So I'm going to talk about the amiibo support in many game and explain how most of them have done horrible.

Games that possibly have good amiibo support but I haven't tried yet

Also I haven't used amiibo in all of these games though I do feel I know enough about the support to make a judgement on if it's good or bad.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS
When you tap an amiibo to this game it creates an AI that you can train and level up. This is the only good amiibo support I've played. What makes it good is that it adds a lot of replay value to retrain an amiibo to see what makes it stronger. Also the game is supported by almost every amiibo.

Mario Kart 8
Tap an amiibo to add a racing costume based off the amiibo. This is bad because the costumes are just cosmetic changes. There are also racing costumes for characters already in the game so why not just be the actual character instead? Also since it's just a cosmetic change then why not add the actual character? Yeah that would take more time to develope but I wouldn't mind waiting for something big like this.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Tap a Toad amiibo to the gamepad and a pixel version of Toad jumps into a level for you to find him. Not only is this pathetically easy you also get no reward for finding him. And once again it's ONLY THE TOAD AMIIBO.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
Tap Kirby, King Dedede, or Meta Knight to gain special powers. Kirby just makes it easier to to a move you can already do. Meta Knight gives a faster piercing dash. And King Dedede gives more health. And it's ONLY THESE 3 AMIIBO. I'm not explaining why it's bad.

Mario Party 10
Tap one of the Mario related amiibo to get the gameplay from Mario Party 1-8 but without the fun and colourful worlds. Just play one of the first 8 Mario Parties.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D
Tap a Shulk amiibo to earn in game tokens.Tokens that can be bought with Play Coins which you get by walking around. Also ONLY THE SHULK AMIIBO can be used for this game. At least the previous games I've talked about had easy-to-get amiibos that supported the game. You HAVE TO order a Shulk amiibo online off of Amazon or ebay where you'll pay at LEAST double.

Amiibo Tap
This is a game that you can download for free. What you do is tap any amiibo and the game loads a demo for a random game. This is almost the worst amiibo support. For starters the game isn't even decided by the amiibo you tap. Second a lot of the games are available as a part of Super Smash Bors for Wii U's Masterpieces. Third it's PAYING FOR A DEMO.

Yoshi's Wooly World
Tap one of many amiibo to change Yoshi's skin. I'm not explaining why this is bad.

Super Mario Maker
This is the worst amiibo support. Scan ANY amiibo (except Mii Fighters) to unlock an 8-bit costume for them. While it is cool to see 8-bit versions of many characters and useful to have an extra hit while still small there's one problem: YOU CAN UNLOCK AMIIBO COSTUMES WITHOUT THE AMIIBO FIGURE!

Would you rather have a figurine of a character you like or a card with a picture of a character you like? Only benefit is them being portable but who has a "New" 3DS?

Upcoming Animal Crossing games
Games look like they're heavily based around amiibo. This is one of the worst paywalls I've seen. This is only assuming you got the amiibo which leads me to my last point...

Getting amiibo
If you walked into the gaming section of a store recently what amiibo did you see? My guess is that you saw quite a few amiibo from Mario games and possibly Link and/or Pac Man. It's IMPOSSIBLE to find amiibo I didn't just list off at any retailer. Don't even get me started on retailer exclusive amiibo. While Mario and Link are nice if you could choose ANY amiibo figure would it really be one of them? Nintendo releases so few amiibo during every wave a majority of amiibo go to scalpers who sell out pre orders the second they become avaiable and then but them on Amazon or ebay for at LEAST double the price.

Yeah they sell when they get released because they're rare andNintendo never does a second shipment.

They're being advertised as in game content and the in game content is horrible.

Amiibo aren't in early access. They're in full release. Currently Smash Bros (and possibly others) is the only game wiht good amiibo support. I listed off NINE GAMES with horrible amiibo support. Nintendo has shown no sign to ship more of non Mario related amiibo and also shows no sign to improve the amiibo support for the NINE GAMES I listed.

There are several my wife wants, but are hard to find and/or exclusives.

I'd like a Shulk my self, but at $70+ on Amazon and Gamestop hardly getting any, not worth my time or money.

Yeah the worst part about amiibo is the lack of them. Though Shulk should only cost you around $30 off of amazon.

And I did say that the best thing about them is just having the figure but these are being marketed for the in game content.

It's not expectable or understandable. Nintendo doesn't even make a second shipment of most amiibo.

The figurine is cool and all, but I want what the amiibos do. So I'd rather have the cards. They'll likely be easier to mass produce, which means they'll be easier to find. They're no doubt cheaper to make, too. So they'll be less expensive.

When those cards are finally released, I foresee they'll quickly eclipse my amiibo collection.

Also, plenty of people have a "New" 3DS, myself included.

Because that's a big enough problem on it's own and we don't need other people joining in on that.
