Since I was pretty much a mute some people thought I must be a genius so when they challenged me to a game of chess and I quickly lost, they were very disappointed.

It was hilarious to me.

Both chess and rubik's cube are cliche, your smart or your not toys.

Did you have the cube? Theres two ways to solve it. The common way and the peeling off the stickers and reapplying them way. The sticker way can prepare you for a life of sneaking your xmas presents open early and without anyone the wiser.

I did that in 5th grade, though I mispronounced it, and I think there was a second pawn next to it that I phased through.

The school held the tournament finale and predicted it to go over a few lunch breaks and organised an arena for people to watch but I ended up winning within 5 minutes with a four move checkmate. How my opponent didn't see that coming is beyond me.

Fools mate. Yes. Anyone that really played should know to avoid that. Your opponent had no business being there.

Oh yes, the glasses. A nice pair of glass can get you called smart. Gawd the glasss, when I used to watch anime it drove me up the wall, that every scene where a smart "glasses wearing guy" would push his up in a certain way every time when driving home a point, like Quincy from Bleach. For example pushing the glasses up with a finger on the nose rest.

Some people with good vision, would even wear glasses just for the look.

Chess with anyone skilled ends up being "Ah! You have made a classic mistake, the old man's pants fart, and I will now beat you in 12 moves and there is nothing you can do about it!"
