What do you think of the dead internet theory?
What do you think about it?
Do you think it's true? Do you think some of its true, but some of its false?
Do you have some sort of proof?

For those who don't already know about the theory here's a Wikipedia link

"The dead Internet theory is an online conspiracy theory that asserts that, due to a coordinated and intentional effort, the Internet now consists mainly of bot activity and automatically generated content manipulated by algorithmic curation to control the population and minimize organic human activity"

Its nonsense. While there is some truth in this, the internet does not MAINLY consist of bots.

I am saying this as a cyber security specialist.

imo this vid fits kinda to the thematic too (bec. internet is like 90% only ads now = like basicly dead and scammy commericals only = literally dead, similar to TV when commericals took over too much)

Asmongold TV - YouTube's War on Adblock Is Escalating
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKtnSzxg0Tc

so its basicly dead in a metaphorical sense maybe for real, like the guy above said its mostly bots for example. or dead in a sense that there is no new good content anymore and just boring and repeating copies of old stuff.

so even when meant more as a creepypasta or conspiracy theory, we could say its more or less true already. -> makes the above creepypasta theory even more awesome and creepy imo! <3

Search for anything on a search engine

Are there any pages after that? Well, yes, but the internet won't show them to you.

I distinctly remember being able to endlessly go through search results in the 90s

The basic premise is flawed.

If "they" built the internet and filled it with bots to drown out people... then what was the point of building the internet in the first place?

As I understand it, the internet was built for communications, and then co-opted by corporations who monetized it. It exists to manipulate you, not replace or silence you. "They" want your money, and your votes.

Bots and AI are real, but they don't have any money.

The internet was built to gather data. If ANYONE responds to even a single automated/bot message - it fulfils its job. The internet gathers data regardless of any bot activity, but bots help tremendously to extract specific individual information.

This is wrong. The internet was built for far-away communication between computers.

Well, it sucks for that. Using internet for far-away comms is slow, imprecise and has low security.

Are the Moon landings real?
Is 9/11 an inside job?

I wouldn't be on this forum communicating with someone else on a private service over the internet if i thought it were true.

I don't care about paranoid fantasies about AI generated nonsense. Everyone has them.

About what exactly?

Theory? More like the truth.

Even more so with AI a thing now.

That's because back then companies didn't have to pay to be on a search engine.
Off Topic is an example of it.
