HDR in windows 10 turns my red into a tomato soup red color. So I don't use HDR.
its barely supported in any game. so i dont have an opinion on it.
on movies when i turn it on, its too bright to enjoy the movie
I haven't used it much but it doesn't seem to suit realistic games very well. It's probably better for bolder and less realistic art styles.
It's a chore to get windows 11 to handle it properly, so I usually don't bother.

Also with the HDR filter, all my screenshots wash out, and it looks terrible.

That's because your video card is screwed up and needs replaced. You must have a very very old video that is on it's last leg.
I have an rtx 2060 Super. So it's not that old. And it works perfectly. It's not my card it's windows it self that can't do HDR properly.
I don`t have HDR monitor so don`t care.
It looks pretty good- but it always has little issues in certain games like Elden Ring

You must be thinking of a 660 or something.
Nope that rtx is so old it wouldn't work on windows xp. I know every single thing about computers and know everything about every single piece of hardware for computers and know that their card is very very old and won't run no game after 2004.
Sorry, but i have to respectfully disagree with you as that card came out in 2019. So it isn't that old.

I gave up on them as i think they are just trying to start an argument. Let their posts speak for themselves.

From what I've heard HDR1000 is the only luminance that makes HDR worthwhile but very few above 60hz monitors like that exist for now.

I've only experienced HDR600 in games and I like it. (Unless you mean the other HDR/iris simulation stuffs)
I didn't even know there were different types. I've only tried it in a few games with the HDR option and found the colours to be too bold in more realistic games. I haven't tried it in more cartoonish games yet.

I tried it in RE2 a moment ago and the environments were still quite dark and moody but the police shirts the zombies wore were very bright blue, and the lighting on the grass made it appear very bright green. I had mixed feelings about it but I think the duller tones seem more natural for the environments.

There are entire range of different HDR levels:

HDR10
HDR10+
HDR 400
HDR 600
HDR 1000
HDR 1400
HDR 2000
HDR True Black 400

Most monitors tend to be HDR 400.
That's interesting, thanks.
I don't use HDR, my monitor doesn't support it.
