What happend? I never really followed the whole Marvel universe outside of Daredevil and Spider-Man but there was a whole mainstream nerd culture around the Marvel movies a few years back.

Now it's no longer cool after a few of their movies bombed, are mainstream fanbases really that shallow?

Plus it's all the same characters. Pretty sure marvel universe is a lot bigger than what you see in the movies, but none of the other characters get much screen time, if any.

And they should've done more with animation IMO. That hollywood slop gets old a lot faster.

One of the things that people overlook is that while there's 80 years of stories for most of these comic IPs, the vast majority of people these movies appeal to remember them most fondly from the late 80s to late 90s. Some into the early 2000s.
They've pretty much run out of material from that era. Also once you bust your nut with the last Avengers movies, you have to follow that up. With what? That's like trying to follow a meal by Gordon Ramsey with prison food.

I can't say I ever felt "cool" watching spiderman... it was just a movie... and then they re-made it like 6000 times in 2 decades.
