Why do people still wear masks in 2024?
Most don't but I still sometimes see the few that do.

If You rob a bank it´s kind of a dress code. Like it´s expected of You to wear any kind of mask, and usually people do this on their free will. It´s their choice to wear a mask when they so desire, or their job demands it.

people wore masks in china before covid...

from what I understand it's just common courtesy to wear a mask in china if you're sick or think you might be... ya know, so you don't make other people sick?
which was always the point of wearing a mask... and how it got twisted beyond that is some social construct where masks will protect you idk, no one ever said that.

maybe you should consider wearing a mask if you need to be out in public and you think you might be sick.

it certainly was a culture shock for me. I was trying to figure out what was going on and why people were wearing surgical masks. But its just the polite and logical thing to do when youre sick
it makes a lot of sense if you actually think about it!

The circus came into town a couple of years back and for some it hasn't left yet.

Not only in China but in many Asian countries like Japan and South Korea.

It depends on the type of masks if they only protect other people from you or if the mask also protects you from other people. Regular surgical masks are sufficient for protecting other people (which is why they are used during surgery: It is supposed to prevent someone infecting the wound of the patient). if you are sick yourself. For protecting yourself FFP2 or FFP3 standards are necessary.
