With some rare game exceptions.
I hate TBS. That's why I can't stand the Fallout games.
As a counter-example, Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 use a system that's basically turn based, with a lot of skills spread over menus and submenus, but with a timer to create artificial pressure. Luckily, it also has "auto" to automatically select a skill to use.
Just kidding
Real time combat is usually more my thing since it requires me to think on the fly rather than take my turn. I like implementing strategy in real time in a game than take turns
Unless I am playing civilization or age of empires where those are the rules
Either is fine in principle. But I think I've played more janky real-time games than janky turn-based games.
