Am I the only one sick and tired of "ultra realistic games and graphics"?
Maybe it's the state of the Silent Hill 2 Remake, but I've lately been out off by all these UE5 games and any other games that seem to aim for "ultra realistic graphics". I don't care about that anymore and I'm sick and tired of it. Games should be about GAMEPLAY.

And the ability to enjoy it without having to worry about having acceptable performance. If someone were to ask me why I might consider RDR1 for PC at $50 to be reasonable, its only because it's the ONLY title this year that accepts being a port that isn't focused on graphics but being as good as it was 14 years ago. All these remasters and remakes are starting to annoy me.

The focus on graphics seems to be lately at the detriment of gameplay and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way. There was something charming about some old games in the past, namely how they focused on atmosphere and art style. It's why Half Life 2 is still as good a game as ever.

I wish some developers would purposefully release a retro or old looking graphics game, but make up for it in gameplay. There's a reason Doom is still popular to this day, despite being over 30 years old. Hell, look at Nintendo games. Mario isn't popular because he's "ultra realistic".

If graphics come at the cost of story or gameplay I am 100% not interested in whatever technology you're gradually learning to utilise. Great games were made within limitations. They made the most of what they were allotted. Modern development costs are idiot-fuelled and misaligned to scrape the moral boundaries of shareholders. Dry out all that is good and take them for granted. Just because they have money doesn't make them exempt from the ever popular "abuse the vulnerable" capitalist mentality that encapsulates American developers and companies alike.
Give me a good game, not a smart game. I'd rather be the idiot, than buy from one.

Here is a game that I feel will encapsulate OPs frustrations. I'm stating my opinion and placing a bet against this game succeeding.

I've never heard of this, until now. It looks... Bland. Not to say awful or that it might not be good. It just seems... I don't even know with that trailer. I get Outer World vibes, in that looks fine, but my brain says it's going to be aggressively mid in the end like that.

Thats fully reasonable, personally the only reason I found it memorable at all is because Xbox studios started promoting it around the same time an indie game capturing a similar aesthetic was moving out of early access, the game was dread delusion.

Idk why but this game captured more vvardenfell-esque alien landscapes far more faithfully and with excellent writing, than anything Avowed has shown to offer. I'm actually sick at looking at these apex studios thinking they're fooling people by showing literally nothing of worth in their trailers.

Well yeah, same developer, probably same engine.

I'm a pretty big Obsidian fan historically, but Outer Worlds was definitely just...fine. It was a game I bought on a steep sale and had an acceptable but mediocre time playing and then had no desire to buy the DLC.

Which isn't the worst, I mean it wasn't actively too bad but from the studio that made Mask of the Betrayer, KoToR2, New Vegas, PoE2: Deadfire, and...uh... Alpha Protocol...I expect something mostly great and maybe partly terrible.

So I might also get Avowed on a very steep sale someday is what I'm saying.

glad i'm not the only person who knows this
graphics are part of the gameplay, they are equally important
go too hard on gameplay and you're working a spreadsheet, go too hard on graphics and you're watching a movie

goldeneye 007 with a 1080p 60fps mod is unironically peak game graphics

Oh yeah I'd love it to be good too! Don't get me wrong I'm not one of those weirdos that sits around hoping games are bad.

Just not running out to pre-order it or anything because my expectations after Outer Worlds aren't great.

Dread Delusion is good stuff though.

Ah, I remember seeing Dread Delusion on Alpha Beta Gamer. The colors are a bit rough at times, but I do remember being interested in this. Thanks for reminding me, I totally spaced on this.

I remember being so hyped for Alpha Protocol. It was underwhelming but not horrible. They actually just started reselling it back in Jun of this year after Sega struggled to keep it with the music rights.

A hollow voice says "Fool."

ASCII Dwarf Fortress is possibly the platonic ideal of PC gaming.

I understood what you meant, perfectly, within just the first sentence. I agree with you ~ a lot of those games aren't terribly replayable, and while the graphics may look good, they don't always feel good.

Yeah Alpha Protocol was a mostly great narrative tied to some not great gameplay. It really captured the spy movie feel. And it had so many possible endings.

Although honestly the fact that the stealth skill just made you invisible for no explained reason was pretty funny.

I dont though. there are some overdone jobs in that design. but i also feel tired of 3d cartoonish styles have been plaguing the market for nearly a decade.

so just focus on gameplay but do some graphical focusing now and then, easy fix, would you rather 4K graphics with little gameplay or 720p-ish graphics but great gameplay and features
Ultima modifica da GigaCars; 14 ott 2024, ore 12:13
Stylized graphics are less boring, so more fun. Caricatures 'n such.

It also doesn't require extreme resolutions to look good.
