People are just so afraid to be called a racist, they even avoid racing games. :m:

GTA 4 cars had too much understeer so they have changed it. Forza Motorsport can be set up to become a simcade as well.

The problem are people storming basically every racing game forum before a it gets released crying, don't make it too easy, don't make it too accessible. This is where the harsh division comes from.

Wreckfest is extremely niche though, and took a decade to build an audience. It was based on a failed Kickstarter project that couldn't even raise $82,000. That's my point.

Horizon is arcadey af. That's even more arcade-like than Mafia III. It has the same crumple physics as Watchdogs. The very fact people have lowered the standards of sim-cade to include Horizon, kind of says it all.

Also, I have to point out that they tried to bring back Test Drive Unlimited a couple months ago, and it flopped immediately. That's the middle-ground simcade market in a nutshell.

Just because you don't precieve Wreckfest as being as successful as you allegedly remember Flatout was in you childhood, doesn't mean it isn't doing well. Wreckfest/Next Car Game had a turbulent kickstarter because it was abandoned by the devs for several months but bugbrear has finished it at the end and it's going strong ever since. The Wikipedia article says:

[20] By the end of the Christmas week the game had already sold for more than Bugbear's initial funding goal of $350,000 on Kickstarter."

Forza Horizon 4/5 is a picture book perfect simcade. You can even drive with clutch and make it lean more towards a sim if it's too arcadey for you. But I'm pretty sure you don't want to give any credit to this franchise because it's being published by Xbox/Microsoft and there are qanon conspirateurs and other criminals that want you and others to hate on it just because 'muuuuuh Microsoft rich.'

TDU Solar Crown didn't flop because it wasn't popular but because the devs have messed up. But the game is still out there and you can play it.

There are still many good simcades around, but you have to overcome your flawed bias.

I don't think the racing game genre has gotten smaller, but rather more fragmented. Everyone has their own little niche style that they like, and there are an abundance of games to fit the mold.

I tend to like arcade style racers. Here's a recent one that I got:

I made a free racing game in my free time, even though it's not about cars but Marbles. Free to play, up to 8 player splitscreen, annyoing AI opponents and local network gaming.

Q-anon? Criminals? Wtf are you talking about?

If this is representative of the racing community, I suppose this would explain why people are fleeing the genre.
