Steam Deck Worth it 2024?
I’m debating, if I consider buying the steam deck?

I have Nintendo switch, but I barely play it.

I assume, it’s probably going to be collecting dust like my Nintendo Switch?

If you're still unconvinced, they just put a white Steam Deck on the store page.

It's very weak compared to every handheld that came out after it.

Do you play mostly newer games or something over 3+ years old. If you like older games get the deck, if you like to play state of the art games, don't get the deck. You also need to see what games will play on the deck, due to anti-cheat issues, it is not unusual for multiplayer games to have issues on the deck.

I'm still on the fence but in case you didn't know, if you have a good PC, you can use remote play to play your games on the Steam Deck in a higher quality, depending if you have fast internet to support that.

There is your answer. If you play games on the PC such ARMA 3, buy a gaming laptop instead.

That's completely wrong. The knockoffs have theoretically faster processing, but they have trash TDP and are crippled with Windows. And the controls are upside down.

I believe that's been pretty much debunked as it would make absolutely no sense to release one anytime soon. Most likely the Steam Deck 2 will be 2026 or 2027 when technology has advanced further so they're a significant difference and the price can be reasonable.

I mean... when I found out gaben was going to try to screw OEMs into providing all the tech support for his steam deck I laughed... then when they all said "no thanks gabe" I laughed even harder...

who's actually supporting those things? steam support? so if it breaks they'll tell me to contact the OEM and the OEM will tell me to contact steam who will tell me to contact the OEM who will tell me to contact steam... etc.

no thank you.

You're making it sound complicated without actually looking into it

Step 1: Contact Steam Support
Step 2: Wait for email
Step 3: Back up and factory reset Steam Deck
Step 4: Send Steam Deck to Valves repair center

I don't think valve actually owns repair centers?

so who have they conned into supporting this thing they obviously don't offer full support for themselves? and where does "the buck stop" with them and it's just "sorry, there's some error with your steam deck and it no longer functions... since we've provided all the information we can we're closing your support ticket."

especially considering they keep trying to whesel out of supporting the products they've already sold me...

No, I didn't say they did, by that I meant they've partnered up with ifixit who do the repairs.

Without actual context behind your scenario I can't actually tell if you where at fault or Valve was at fault.

Do you want to game outside?

Are you outside for 3 hours playing the deck?

Can you charge it whenever you want?

Get it if you say yes to these three

I have a SD and ROG Ally, I PLAY my Steam Deck daily and use my Ally to watch YouTube.

Plus the Steam Deck has system wide FSR that works on every game. No other handheld can offer that.

depends on your expectations I guess. It is old now the tech even in oled model is dated but still a great system but not compared to ally + X. The SD deck is limited in catalogue, power is underwhelming. Soon the RDNA2 chips will be out and all the handheld creators will upgrade making all phase 1 obsolete
