I'd probably omit either beating or growing heart, we have enough red heart emoji.
Monochrome symbols FTW.
Ayy, we're on the same page.

Anyways, we need more, actually. words don't fit on a phone calendar very well but symbols which have the same meaning do. "Toil..." and I'm already out of room for that line on the calendar, but with a toilet emoji, I can just slap that icon on the calendar, along with several other icons, and know which chores I either accomplished on that day or need to get to at that specific day.
We are much more a symbol oriented species than a glyph oriented one so as long as the right emojis are added (things that actually relate to what we do with our lives, like mirrors, and scissors, and glue) then they actually can be very useful for packing easily-readable information succinctly into tight display spaces.
I'm sure we'll continue to get very useful emojis that will have a wide-array of applications that actually relate to and are helpful for many people like the "Levitating man in suit", or that allow us to easily convey many unique and new ideas from our imaginations by simply mixing and matching, and that things that are actually useful to representing our daily lives are not overlooked while silly or unrelatable ones are added instead.
On the contrary, I think that how emoji are handled should extend that beyond just the realistic skin-tones & make it so that every emoji graphic can be recolored on supporting devices by using the colored circle emojis to swap their color palates. This would be so easy to do if they just designed it right - it's what old games did & many new modern games too.
Finally we could have green alien Santa Claus and Clifford red dog emojis.
We could have autumn trees, green eggs and ham!
Golden eggs, & peed on snowmen!
("Merry Christmas! Here's a peed on Snowman, and a red dog, and an alien Santa!" )
...simply by extending the re-color specification... to ALL of the specified color modifiers!
...not just the skin-tone ones...
"But that's not realistic!" people might say... well... neither is "pregnant man" and they still added that to the specification.
