I love this genre - Pokemon, Digimon, Nexomon, Monster Rancher, etc. IDK what it is about it, but the cute monster genre really does it for me.

I'm looking forward to Palworld.

I really do find many monsters in Monster Hunter to be cute as well, not quite the same genre but i still count them as cute.

Now I will give my cute monster genre ranking, feel free to give yours, as well:

Digimon - this is first for me because I like how the monster can go from cute to legitimately badass. The whole digital world theme is interesting, too and I like how it mixed in elements of surrealism to the setting.

Pokemon - one of the most unique things ever created with an extremely distinctive art style and aesthetic with quintessential mechanics

Monster Rancher - also cool, but not as charismatic or uniquely defined as the other 2

Nexomon - I like it, but it's a straight up Poke rip

The common theme of this genre is friendship, yet it's often based on a dynamic of captivity and exploitation. I'm not sure if that's actually a conflict or just an inadvertent commentary on the nature of relationships. Also, Digimon is underrated.

Dragon Quest series is also terrible with it's cute monsters. They're so adorable you start wondering if you're the bad guy for killing all of them. lmao.
