why are gamers so toxic?
like i mean like they are legit toxic. there is justified toxic like someone throwing or not caring or when they lose but there are people who live to be toxic.

so many games i see like league or dead by daylight people join with a toxic mental. they will ether trash talk or throw if they see something they don't like or in dbd case will annoy tf out of you and make you regret playing the game.

like its insane how people take the internet being annoyances and will max it out to the highest toxic level they can.

in ow people would 1 trick the worst hero in the game to piss off the whole community cause if you picked that hero and you suck its ggs and people loved that for attention.

its one thing to care more than others or to lose and be mad but man these people really are something else. i am even shocked the devs even allow this behavior tbh.

you swear at someone you get banned but oh no if you throw or use anything in the game for toxic benefits thats fine lol.

gaming makes no sense to me xd on what the devs allow or not.

Pubescence and anonymity.

It's not only gamers. It's the general human race - (not speaking about the decent and honest peeps around the planet)

I went to the pub yesterday and the dislike and hate on display was overwhelming. Some is outright but most is implied and voiced in that passive aggressive manner.

I'm so tired of it I'm seriously thinking of stopping going which is a shame :-/

It's the competitive mindset combined with the lack of attention.
They feel lost in reality, so videogames are the escapism.. And one needs to vent it all out, which is what do they do.

Those who have friends with whom they can share their life don't feel the need to vent that much because they've already taken care of it beforehand by talking about it.

Lots of gamers on social media these days then...

In fact, lots of gamers everywhere.

Meh i dont think it has much to do with gaming at all. I mean those people would be toxic regardless of what they are doing but with online more so in free to play games they can be as toxic as they want without anything happening to them.

You don't go to an alcohol establishment looking for happy people. Try to find a circle of hippies or something.

The answer is probably found somewhere between the sacred silence and sleep.

Well, League of Legends, one of the most famous examples of toxicity, is toxic because you have 10 people in a game and half of them lose every single game. Every game has 5 people losing. And also the game is designed in a way that it becomes obvious you're likely to lose before you're halfway through the match. So you have 5 people losing a game and stuck in it for almost 30 minutes.

Also, I think toxic is too broad of a term used. Just because someone is having a bad time and game and voicing their opinion at you, I don't think that's truly bad. I think people could grow a thicker skin over that and take it and try to be better.

But, in the case of League, no matter how good you are 50% of players are losing in every match.

I know something though... taking away chat is not the answer. Chat is part of the games. So taking them away is just going to make players leave.

Your standards for "toxic" are very low if trash talk and in-game trolling count.
Waryth 2024 年 7 月 21 日 下午 1:08
It's about incompetency. The person doesn't know how to play the game and how the game mechanics work, rules, objective so on and so forth.

The goal of online team based games is to win. Sometimes, your teammates are just terrible and doesn't know how to play your character right. It's okay being bad but some people literally don't put effort at all and intentionally die/make mistakes despite being told/warned.

The other side of the spectrum would say you're too competent or having no life but in the end you play the game and go straight for the objective. It doesn't matter how you'll learn it eventually overtime.

There's really some casual players who are freeloaders and get carried in every game. It only takes 1 person in the team to sabotage the whole group.

You can always report them and get them penalise but almost every player base is like this that means you have to report every single one of them every match which is too much of a chore that almost nobody reports.

I try not to be toxic at most and instead of insulting players, I tell them what to do and what they're doing wrong but instead they're the ones being toxic themselves so I end up retaliating in self defense making the entire team being unproductive and downhill sabotage team play. They have high ego and don't want to be educated despite spending time to put effort leading the team to victory.

Players can be toxic without insulting them in chat by sabotage:
  • I dislike you and I won't assist you in combat and let you die on purpose.

In the end, this is all the game developer's fault by game design. They complicate things for everyone and sure highly skilled game play and so on but even the some tutorials doesn't offer everything a player needs to compete with other veteran players.

They have match making, ELO, ranks but none of those matters as one gets carried and so on and so forth or that also applies to you but never the same rank, same level there's always one higher or below you. Don't forget other games with multiple objectives which conflicts players interest which are all partly to blame.

The best way to play online games is with a friend at most decreasing the toxic experience and showing good teamwork. If you play in a squad/division/group in a team of 10 and have a group then it lessens the odds of toxicity especially when your group is performing well.

If its a battle royale genre with strangers usually 3 players in a squad then bringing one friend lessens the toxicity to 1/3 but sabotage is still a possibility. This is why its recommended to bring a full GROUP or PLAY with a CLAN.

People hate fighting against clans as a solo player but if you play with a clan with same minded against other clans then its a fair game. The solo player who trash talks and doesn't have a clan will end up knowing he's the problem eventually.

the ones who are, their lives suck so much that a video game means everything to them in life. losing is a life or death manner for some.
