Supermarkets and Security
In the UK some supermarket chains have a policy of not confronting shop lifters.

Failure to adhere to this policy and the staff member/s can be fired.

What do you think about this?

That's a stupid policy and those supermarkets deserve to get robbed if they don't let their staff prevent the shoplifter from leaving.

Call the police, keep the shoplifter in the store and done.
Where there problems that too many people were harmed while confronting shoplifters, when it´s only a matter of the insurance to replace the money value?

I mean could easily be a law to protect the people, and save costs for the society because healthcare - even more so when a shop worker can only prevent that some money is gone temporarily, and no one forbids them to call the police.

Else i have no opinion about this. It´s not the wild west here, in which people have to defend some replaceable goods with their life - or else they are broke as well...

Also there are probably security people who are excluded from the rule.

the honest people maybe suffer because store raises prices to cover the shoplifted goods

Since such a policy seems to encourage it, they should just shoplift too.
I'm sure Labour will encourage this and maybe legislate nationwide rules to support it. Most criminals and their families vote for them so its worthwhile.

The same reason they bring massive immigration in- just to get more future votes.

They have no morals otherwise. Then they go about how immoral the right is. Funny that.

Makes the store look bad if workers are enforcers, pushy likely to engage in altercation. Life precautions too. It’s a law issue
People should have rights to defend themselves, just as their property. If law forbids stopping shoplifters, then the law should cover the losses incurred to the owner of the properties.

But, if you are talking about supermarket chains, the law is there to protect the workers in question that do not get paid enough to risk their life to protect it.

Mass immigration was the Tories, this time round.
Bring back the days when you could clothes line shoplifters on their way out.

At the very least it was funny to watch.
Give your grocery list to a illegal immigrant and pay him 50% of what it would cost? It's not a crime now and I can't be silenced for saying such Steam.

I could imagine it´s an insurance thing anyways. The insurance has to pay more for injured (also mentally) workers than to replace some crappy products, so they want such a law in place to save money.

More that the employer can´t enforce this - or fire them for not doing anything.
It's the same in your house. If you can escape, escape. If you fail to retreat and you can, even in most of the US, you can be found liable if you kill the intruder.

Like for example, if someone is stealing your car and you go outside to confront them and shoot them. That can in fact get you in prison. It's not a guarantee, but it can happen.

It's just stuff.

It's the same basic principal. By confronting shoplifters you're increasing the chances of someone being hurt. And they have insurance. Plus, everyone already pays your government for protection. The real question is why the government is allowing so much crime when they get so much money to stop it.

Most store chains across the world have this type of policy. It's more about the safety of the employees/customers due to escalation and what could happen like, a fear of the violence and liability that could come from such confrontations.

You're right, that's one reason among many that they're out. But of course that will just become worse now.

Most supermarkets have security guards anyway.
