We are under a severe thunderstorm watch. Last night we got hit HARD. Thunder. Lightening. Massive rain fail. I left my windows down just a little crack and got water in my vehicle. Not a lot thankfully. I live in South Jersey (NJ).
I've even got a basement I could have sheltered in and strapped myself to the pipes like in tornado.
Also, the area that they cover is very large. I know when we get a tornado watch in my area it goes to Philly and down to Delaware.
now the wind started
already checked the car window ha ha
edit add oh boy now the hail started
<<<ALERT>>> Heckin' Wimdy <<<ALERT>>>
I crashed and fell asleep in the middle of the morning after finally getting home from a long trip. I slept through a tornado going through what was effectively my back yard. It picked up three 100 yr+ Oak Trees, tossed them around a field like twigs, then checked out to go %#^^ off somewhere else.
I heard it. I felt it. I just... didn't care. Pretty amazing nobody was killed and it only did minor damage to some homes.
Good luck, be safe. If you're really worried, make sure you put something with your address on it in your pocket so rescue workers know where to deliver your corpse... (Funny/Not Funny? :))
But in my area they are fairly rare and never more severe than taking down a few trees.
In fact, after the last time I had to deal with my phones and everyone else's phones alerting I decided to turn off almost all emergency alerts. I left the Amber Alerts on, and we are unable to turn off the National alerts, but I don't really care about the rest of them.
