Does money buy happiness?
Money is one of those topics that most people don't like to talk about which is a shame because being ignorant about money can make your life that much harder. You tend to go into debt. Avoid investing because you think the money game is rigged. Its not rigged. Learn to play the game.

And so, it just amazes me that people avoid the harsh truth that money does buy happiness. And according to new research that number is much higher than previously thought which was about $75k or about $100k annually.

Its funny that people act like money doesn't matter. And yet, we work long hours. We go to college, and take on advanced degrees and we will never say the reason why. Its obvious. MONEY MATTERS. Lots of money matters. Stop lying to yourself. I love the idea of making a lot of money because money buys freedom. Money gives you options in life. Have you ever needed to fix your car and you didn't have the funds? Or, you have bills and you didn't have the money to pay those bills. Or stuck at a horrible job but you can't leave because you have rent or a mortgage to pay at the end or beginning of the month. Yea. I've been there. Money is amazing. We should have more open dialogue when it comes to money. Make so much that you have Fyou money. Nothing wrong with that.

Money buys happiness to a limit

So eventually more money is not increasing your happiness, that threshold is fairly high mind

Eventually it doesn't matter but lack of money and all the things money can bring is a huge negative once you no longer lack money, more money won't greatly impact, and eventually it won't impact at all

Think about it, if I give you $100 a day, that's nice, you can probably afford a lot more, and you're happier, $1000 a day, well now that's even better, you can choice to work or not, you can do a lot of things and help others, so that's great, $10,000 a day, well now you're flying....$100,000....probably has minimal impact, if any, you can maybe do some bigger things quicker so, still not going to be a billionaire anytime soon

After that it's just bigger number really it won't really impact you

But people wouldn´t say "No thanks - but i don´t need more."

So conclusion:

Any bought happiness is at the cost of the happiness of someone else. Or in worst cases: it doesn´t increase the happiness of an individual, but makes many people more sad and desperate.

"Happiness is not a gift from the gods; it is the fruit of an inner attitude."

"Our consumer and market economy is based on the idea that you can buy happiness, just like you can buy anything. And if you don't have to pay money for something, then it can't make you happy. But people have not yet realized that happiness is something completely different, something that only comes from your own efforts, from within and costs no money at all, that happiness is the cheapest thing in the world."

"The holders of authority and those who benefit from it must convince people of this fiction and put their realistic, i.e. critical, thinking to sleep. Every thinking person knows the methods of propaganda, methods by which critical judgment is destroyed and the mind is lulled into submission to clichés that stultify people because they make them dependent and deprive them of the ability to trust their eyes and their judgment. This function, which they believe in, blinds them to reality."

Sure you can be depressed and rich, but let's be honest...

Most people would rather be depressed and rich, crying in their SUPER YACHT... than depressed and poor, crying in their roach-infested $2500 a month apartment with paper-thin walls. :parksmiley:
You make a very compelling argument.

Haha!

I know, right? :MMForFun:

Hell, according to some psychologists, money concerns account for most of the problems they see in a large portion of their patients. Meaning most of their mental anguish could be "cured" with more money. And I'd have to agree.

Not really, and no people won't turn down more money but it won't make them much happier if at all

And no you buy your happiness and that adds happiness, you buy something from a shop the shops happier, their supplier is happy, especially a smaller 'one man band' and if you hav elots of money you can choose to spend more and support a smaller local business over Megacorp#2, that also makes you happier, Megacorp doesn't care it has billions, I mean it wants more, but it doesn't make it unhappy you went to Little Joes, it doesn't really care

I read once that (a lot of) money doesn't really change you, it instead allows you to be more of what you already are.

So if someone won a big lottery,

Happy person would become happier.
Selfish person would become more selfish.
Generous person would become more generous.
Greedy person would become greedier.

And an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ would become a bigger ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.:steamhappy:

I think daniel tosh summed it up best:

“Money doesn’t buy happiness.” Uh, do you live in America? ‘Cause it buys a WaveRunner. Have you ever seen a sad person on a WaveRunner? Have you? Seriously, have you? Try to frown on a WaveRunner. You can’t!"

Money does not buy you happiness.

You can get to a point when no amount of money will give you a sense of happiness, but rather you become a slave to collecting it. You see individuals like Elon Musk doing that. They are a depressed slave to money, who never seem to live their life.

Being financial wealthy instead is key. You will find these individuals not bother flashing around money, sport cars or even having a huge mansion house. As they are aware those are liabilities with on-going expense costs. Rather they invest in passive incomes and are no longer a slave to money. They could lose their job and still survive just from their passives. They still work however, because they enjoy it and have a passion. It's no longer some slave labour.

"Money can't buy happiness" is something a poor person will say to try and make themselves feel better about being poor.

No need for armchair philosophy or "I'm 14 and this is deep" crap.

Imagine having so much money you would never need to work again and could instead pursue whatever hobbies you want, go and live anywhere you want, afford the best medical and healthcare in the world, never have to worry about a greedy landlord raising your rent to the point you are forced to move.

But, yeah... Keep saying it won't buy happiness. :MMForFun:

This just happened:

I have told the tale of disowning the surviving members of the family and loving living alone. That didn't come from nowhere.

Yesterday, upon coming home from shopping, one of the neighbors was at the door saying that the police had been by and wanted to talk to me. Alright, what for?

They came by again, and I wouldn't open the door. I would only talk to them through the doorbell.

After telling them to state their purpose or leave, it finally came out that my horrible brother had died. OK, why are they at my door?

They tried asking if I was sad and it felt like I was being worked over. Again, I told them to get to the point or leave.

They then started giving me a word salad about how the hospital, the landlord, the funeral home... had a number of "concerns" and "considerations." I was getting pissed and insisted on knowing what those were. Out with it or get off my property!

"Well ya know...There... ummm... uhhh... are still things to deal with... ummm...sir. uhhh... sir... ummm... there are still arrangements... ummm... sir.... uhhhh... financial concerns that haven't been addressed."

In other words the **** died broke and without a plan and they were at my door hat in hand.

I told them to have a very nice evening and we are done.

After all those years of hating on me, when push came to shove, I did what it took to make it while the others loved failure, addiction....

And upon dying broke, I would break out the checkbook.

NO!
