Hawaiin pizza is spam and pineapple... companies just use ham because... well... spam
Edit:
Do I really need to put a "
hawaiian pizza is an abomination to the world
A Japanese fast food franchise in Canada has a teriyaki dish that they like to call "Hawaiian Chicken", which is just their regular chicken teriyaki with rice, except they slap pineapples on it.
It DOES automatically make it Hawaiin though. It's meant as a descriptor, not a providence, to imply with pineapple, and more often than not, ham.
It's not unlike a Denver omelette. They didn't cook your omelette in Denver, neither did any of the ingredients come from there, at all period. It merely means it has green and red peppers with ham. Hawaiian is no different. Want a Chicago dog? That's just onions, relish, tomato, mustard and sport peppers... Its a food term to describe what's in it without saying all of it.
And fun fact: 3 out of 8 posters spelt "Hawaiian" incorrectly.
