Is it safe to overclock a PS5 controller?
I've read that it reduces input lag by a considerable amount on PC, but I would like to know if there are any risks (apart from voiding the warranty)

I never heard such a thing as overclocking controllers.

Do you have to wear oven mitts while using it?

It is a thing. Basically you use a software to increase the controller's polling rate

When we're overclocking controllers, it may be time to take a step back and seriously reconsider how complex our electronics really need to be.
I overclocked mine and haven't had any issues yet, but i can't promise something won't come up.

If you can afford to replace it should it come to that, I'd say you may as well just do it.

It uses the same method as overclocking a mouse. That is - a custom (unsigned) driver is installed to increase the USB polling rate. I don't think it damages the hardware but is it worth potentially destabilising the entire system with a driver of unknown provenance - just to reduce input lag from 11ms to 3-4ms? In my personal opinion, no. I havent seen a BSOD in years and I'd like to keep it that way.

I honestly wouldn't bother messing with something like that for a minuscule faster input, Its fast enough for me using a wired connection.

Indeed. How much more could anyone get out of a controller and how much risk/reward would it be for the effort.

Related to the wired connections part; a meme I saw once was spot on.
500$ Wifi Gaming Router vs 5$ Ethernet Cable.

Sure you can do it, but what's the point?

All it does is repsond to a game and communicate with it.

The game will communicate what it needs.

So if you overclock unless the game is using that new speed, it's wasted.

Like people getting a keyboard with a high polling rate, Or even a high DPI mouse, mine can be set to be extremely sensitive and playing a first person shooter with it becomes bloody hard.

There is a limit you know.

Yes but even then it must be USED.

With a PS5 controller, what game would be set up to account for anyone overclocking their controller? I'd token at this point, zero.
