You don't need to use disposable and polluting methods either, polishing and maintaining the blade works wonders, even on cartridge razors.

For those who use cartridge razors, strop them against a towel, denim or leather or a proper strop, run the blades firmly against it, not in the cutting direction, opposite, it cleans buildup off the blade surface. If it has those lubricating or whatever strips on the top though, perhaps wait until that's used up first before doing this. You can also use detergents and hot water to help stop buildup of oils and other contaminants from dulling the edge of the blades. While it will never be factory new sharp with this method, it can last many months if you can tolerate the duller edge and lack of gel strip.

According to Google I have a "balbo beard" variation with sideburns to make a continuous hair strip of sorts... I guess that's my style.
