Yes, I feel that as well, its just unecessary. Maybe I would feel differently if I would live in some super cold region and would be constantly exposed to super cold weather.

Agreed. Though, in some long term relationships a little experimentation/request happens too. Since it's relatively easy for most men to grow some kind of facial hair, it's been my experience that requests aren't unknown for different looks/"feels" etc...

I can't comment on super cold weather but whenever I've suffered colder winters in Britain (back when we had snow) I never needed one as scarves and other things exist.

The winters in Britain are and were very mild. If you visit the northern part of Scandinavia or perhaps eastern Poland or Russia, the weather is a lot more intense.

Sure, but again, scarves and such exist.

I take it you've heard of Yakutia? I know of a few people that live there, and none of them have beards or need them.

And from what I've seen of their older photos, even back in older times they didn't need them either.
