with how far technology and 3d rendering has improved over the past few decades it has become impossible to ignore how graphically outdated many classic cgi movies have become. Toy Story, Pirates of The Caribbean, Transformers, Avatar, The Matrix etc. were all made many years ago on now obsolete hardware. Imagine how much better they could look if they were updated with all of the modern improvements we have now. Going to the movie theater might literally become life-changing with how amazing the cgi will look. I think this is a huge missed opportunity.

no, older movies are classic old school generation. Most newer movies are clear visible when using a green screen. Just take alien, classics are great, newer versions dont look as intimidating.

Old Dune has not aged well. It's Ice Pirates meets Mad Max meets the 60-80s retro future. Even Mad Max is dumb because the fuel they use somehow has no drawbacks whatsoever.

Once a civilization has progressed beyond a certain point it can never go back. You can see this phenomenon quite clearly in real time as well which is not that much different from genetic or even language drift.

It reminds me of 'murican homes with their hidden razer blade dispensers in the bathroom wall because that describes the meaning of sweeping it under the rug quite perfectly.

Time Bandits, Labyrinth, Legend, they wouldn't have the same effect in super HD. The fuzz was like a magic element accounted for during filmmaking sorta like howbthe old games were created for that cathode flicker and pixel bleed.

They've been remastering movies since before I was born. Film degrades, after all. If you have to make new copies, why not give them a spit-shine while you're at it.

For newer stuff---sure, why not try to enhance them? People are hesitant to get into new IP, so make the most of the stuff they're already watching, until they get sick of it.

I tried to watching On the Waterfront 1954 with Marlon Brando from Prime video, but the audio was very low and well have to wait for winter when I don't need a fan beside me to hear it properly

Remastering and upscaling has been going on for decades.

Watching 2001 A Space Odyssey HD Bluray is lovely, except for the Zero G scene in the space shuttle where the pen is floating, and you can clearly see it's stuck to a transparent piece of plastic that's being rotated.

Good movie remastering makes efforts to digitally hide visible wires and other practical effects that used to be invisible, but it's not always possible.

Also, no there were no suicidal Munckins hanging themselves in Oz.

nothing wrong with 35mm... it still outclasses anything today, in my opinion...:-)
