Anyone else sick to death of preorder bonuses.
Things like early access ... exclusive skins ... FOMO!!!!!!

I'm actually tired of it.

Doesn't matter what company it is or what platform it is on, people really shouldn't be giving these people their money until we've seen reviews or checked the quality of the game we're giving up our money for.

And yes YES I get it "You don't tell me how to spend my money". And you're right of course. But why support these horrible business practices?

That brand new cod game or battlefield ( Doesn't matter what game, It's just an example ) that you just gave £70 for might run at like 10 FPS at launch or frequently crash.

I hate FOMO as much as the next guy and I'm not saying the game you're buying into is gonna be terrrible. I just wish people had the willpower to just wait for reviews and feedback before dropping a massive amount of money on a game.

Are you really missing out if you don't use the pre-order bonuses? Things like skill points, I don't use those. I don't need an advantage at the very start.

It matter in the end.

Everything is connected that you are missing out of life as everyone else are living the life.

It is because you may not admit it.

But you are a second class citizen.

And they are only wishing to sell the game to the best buyer.

The reason is that a single player can be worth 100 players. The reason is that 1,5% of world population is super rich that they are pushing the buy button and as a toddler they were sitting with an Ipad buying up amazon

Depends on the preorder bonus.

I know a lot of people that would preorder for a variety or reasons. Some because they're impatient and get the premium editions for early access.

Some because they don't want to miss out on any "content" that comes with a preorder.

If the stuff you got in your preorder was made available to others later for playing the game I wouldn't have as much of an issue.

I pre-order games I know I'll like: Elden Ring, Lies of P, God of War Ragnarok, etc...

But the bonuses really aren't worth writing home about.

But what if that game you preordered runs like utter rubbish? Maybe poor optimization or frequent crashes?

Again I don't wanna look like I'm hating on games themselves. I've never played any of the games you listed but wouldn't it still be better to wait and see the performance of the game as much as the quality of the game itself?

Well, regardless if you pre-ordered the standard edition or not, it's still the same price if you buy it a week after launch. It makes no difference. Also, seeing as how many games come out with some issues, you can be assured that patches will be released soon enough to address the major problems.

I usually do wait at least 6 months before buying most games, but some, like RE4 Remake, nah, wasn't waiting to play that gem.

NEVER pre-order.

If a game requires pre-order bonuses in order to be good, then it's not a good game.
Advent 2024 年 6 月 11 日 上午 7:07
Last time I preordered anything, it was Bioshock Infinite and that was only £25.

Yes, the "whales". That's why there are so many pay to win games now. They know they will have bad reviews but they don't care. They have between 100 and 10 000 players who give them between 10 000 and 250 000$ per year. Why would they waste their time with 99% of their other clients ? Have you heard about the game Call of Dragons ? If we would have private servers for this game it would probably be one of the most played game ever made but on the official servers, if you don't spend money, you just can't play at all. Every guilds would kick you out and this is a PVP game but all you will do is play solitary game alone in your corner, you will play for nothing, you will win nothing. You will only waste your time for wasting your time.

It's seen often in smaller games that someone gets monopoly over the world economy and everyone else are just visitors.

You know that you are a visitor since if someone would steal a thing from a player, like they drop a piece of candy paper on the floor and you pick it up, you will not only be hunted by them but the entire server will join them. Or if you curse at them, then you are banned by the server. Since the entire server's members are paid to play their game. Which would be no different from leasing a boat. You now on this boat and didn't pay for the ride.

You get to sit in the cabin and be the cabin boy.

As a general rule I try to avoid preordering games and usually wait about a month after their release to see how they perform. When a game is first launched, the initial hype can be overwhelming and cloud reviews. By waiting for about 30 days, you can get a more balanced perspective from reviews and community feedback, and also allow time for any necessary patches to be released.

One of the main issues is that shareholders in game development studios often pressure for early releases to maximize their return on investment, which can lead to underdeveloped products.

Pre-orders are the worst manifestation of this practice, as consumers are essentially buying a promise that the game will be good. Despite past assurances from studios—like the trust placed in CD Projekt Red before the release of Cyberpunk 2077—these promises don't always hold true.

Stop preordering games. By doing so, you send a message to shareholders that this anti-consumer practice is unacceptable.

I hate it but on the more objective side, you have to admit, that's some nasty and efficient way to sell more copies.
Rumpelcrutchskin 2024 年 6 月 11 日 上午 7:46
Nah, I simply don`t pre-order anything anymore. Learned my lessons.
Chaosolous 2024 年 6 月 11 日 上午 7:47
You get the products you support financially. Stop buying them and they’ll stop making them.
It does bug me. But I don't mind that (which I can simply ignore for the most part) nearly as much as "seasons" designed around FOMO. Game designs (whether live service, or merely live service "inspired") that want you to play X amount of time during X period of time or "season," lest you miss out on certain unlockables. It's tolerable in some specific instances, but I find it far more obtrusive than preorder bonuses.
