Favourite horror game of all time?

I have to go with Silent Hill 2, but the original Resident Evil is a close second. What's your favourite horror game, whether it's a modern, retro, indie, or AAA title? I want to hear 'em all.

As a bonus, any recommendations for horror games that you loved, but are largely under the radar/underappreciated?

That it is.. I mean, it was when I got into it.
Unfortunately, I have quickly adapted to it and have no longer felt the atmosphere I have expected upon escaping the Dimitrescu Castle.
Everything that happened afterwards was.. To be expected. It has felt like an action shooter, not like a horror videogame whatsoever.

So, while the game is good, it's a bit too.. Praised just for being a sequel, not for what it truly brings on the table.

I could live without the action parts like the heisenberg fight too. It is, uneven, one could say, i suppose.

Well, yes. It doesn't feel the same anymore around those parts, but I have enjoyed the story upon leaving the castle a lot more than while being inside the castle.
The goal probably was to make the player feel hopeless, trapped, to envoke terror within them by limiting the options, but.. That didn't work for me.
On the contrary, it was the exact opposite; I can't say the same about the rest of the game, because those were the parts that I have enjoyed despite the desire to enjoy the castle. I have felt determined to get as much out of the castle as possible, but in the end I haven't managed to get anything out of it.
The adventure has ended way too early on, of course near the time when I have started to have fun.

The rest of the game was fun, but.. It was no longer the horror genre of a videogame for me.

I'm a big fan of the horror games, but I can't tell which one is my favorite, every good game gives me something different but I appreciate them all.

I think resident evil 3 is the best of that genre, but those aren't all that scary to me. And the story on silent Hill games are always just kind of lame. I've been liking the fatal frame stuff more and more. I intend to play through two more of them this October.
