You can always play a HC server without spotting. But I can live with that, since hardly anyone playing these days are using that mechanic anyway. Also its not the same, that is a mechanic doesn't kill immersion for me. And I see that you only replied the last sentence.
I see that you are very narrow in your thinking. Let's try this: imagine that you like history accurate tv series. Imagine you CHOOSE and favor a tv series because its not cartoony or comic. Imagine that same series you chose, suddenly adds comic stuff and cartoon characters. You look around and suddenly almost all series are doing the same practice.
Its not about a simulation or not. Its the way that the market is shifting to this. There should be a grey area between a simulator and an arcade. Nowadays you have to go 100% sim and lose 45 minutes to start an engine or go to 200% childish with Tom Cruise suddenly running in the trenches with aviators, perfectly combed hair and doing poses.
Take a look to world of tanks for example. They have fluoresent pink tanks.
Also, as said, older BF games don't have that and it worked. It wasn't a simulation and it wasn't a joke.
It was a long time Crazy tiger.
So, what about it? can we talk about that? do we have to just sit and say "... how sad, this new trend is not for me" or can I say that I don't like it?
Its pretty obvious yes, that is the "problem" in a way. The trend is narrowing the offer.
Now the thing is that there are no alternatives. If you don't like stupid stuff you have to go "full sim"
I don't want a full simulator. I want some fun with a rather simple game but make it a little more mature. I don't think its wrong to say that trends are pushing the limits of games to the side of microtransactions and stupid "cool" stuff that kills immersion.
So you suggest that the people should shut up whatever happens and accept whatever they are thrown at?
Also... your "publishers" focus seems a little defensive... maybe suspicious. Are you making DLC's?
I do think it looks laughably out of place in some titles like Ghost Recon Breakpoint where there are emote dances yet it's a single player game but money is always a priority for publishers no matter how it may discredit a game. Distinctive unlockables also give users something to work towards.
Personally I'm not a fan of this kinda thing but this is where gaming has gone and it's making the industry more money than ever and keeping engagement up in many brands.
That is what I'm talking about here. Again, fortnites exists... its ok, I just don't consume those games. But recently it seems all games (aside from full simulation titles) are practicing that, and it ruins the gameplay for me and many others.
They get the money anyway. Its just a matter of getting MORE. And they will NEVER stop. And they are always crying that everything hurts business for them. So, in a few years all games will look like Overwatch.
Likewise, I don't think I've ever used a swimsuit outfit...
Simple games are going to attract casual gamers, which is the userbase which is going to be taken back by niche-specific aspects. You're kind of mixing oil and water here.
If you only look at mainstream gaming of course. Their foucs is making money and that is achieved by attracting the broadest userbase out there.
On the other hand, you have an ocean full of indies out there to find your specific itch scratched.
Im afraid your issue has more to do with where are you looking for the thing you want than with the games themselves.
Its not a matter of "go look somewhere else". Its rising a hand against a practice that is affecting the options available. Let me know any indie alternatives that are like battlefield series (graphically and in gameplay) and I will check them.
"You’re free to say “I don’t like it” but don’t get uppity when people point out you sound like a senile old grandpa screaming from your porch about it"
I can point that he can be also called "a teen eating cheetos screaming at the monitor" if someone says that Im a SENILE OLD GRANDPA. Or are you all trolling here?
