I don't really think anyone here does have such burden.

"Burden of proof" is a concept meant for court-rooms & research labs.
(More-so court-rooms, as research sometimes utilizes strongly supported conjectures to further related subjects.)

It should also apply in situations of accusations but if that goes on for long enough, it'll just wind up in a court-room. (& half a dozen people will lose their jobs before that - this isn't such a situation, though.)

Yet in the very same post you contradict that statement with the following statement:

Either you're taking the stance of "I don't know" (with a "maybe" or "maybe not leaning), or you're simply taking the stance of "It's not possible". These two positions are mutually exclusive & yet both statements appear within your post.

If you want to argue strict semantics, you should at least endeavor to stay consistent about it.

I'm not really interested in people possibly creating "Apex" from the TV series "The Crossing", which is something that might happen if people start messing around with the vast unknowns in genetic alterations for recreational reasons.

(Though, more realistically to be of higher likelihood, they'd probably just create some people with degenerative illnesses & hopefully those genes wouldn't propagate into the general population & give large portions of future generations degenerative illnesses.)

I mean, we don't know that we can, but those similar experiments, that have already been conducted, make it seem plausible.

Overall, your post is pretty much my point exactly but because I muse that it might be possible (specifically because I used that word "possible") in an informal discussion about the subject, I hear that I should "prove" it (which the only way to actually prove it - instead of just running on the conjecture of "probably possible" due to similar experiments with genetics - would be to actually attempt it. As you point out, this is a wholly irresponsible thing for people to attempt.)

Every advancement in science is because someone said "what if" about something previously considered impossible, thus allowing them the motivation to even attempt it, or because someone set out to prove something, that was unproven either way, and actually succeeded (or perhaps failed if they were trying to prove the opposite).

Some things are best left unknown, though.

When it's anime, it's just a drawing - when you start to try and bring such things into real life with anything more than a headband accessory & maybe a cotton tail, it begins to have implications that reach the level of existential threat.

To be fair though, this is as moot and untenable as debating the fashion habits of pixies.

Until picies are first demonstrated to exist, you CANNOT get further down the pasth to talking about their fashion habits.

So you CANNOT say these creations will be anything or behave a certain way, because we cannot know if it's ever likely to even happen.

And if it were to happen through advances in genetics, then you have no idea they'd be a pitiful existence. There are many engineered creations that have been made artificially (like Dolly the Sheep) and they di not adversely have any negative effects, certainly not emotional.

It focuses more on the what ifs of enhanced technology, and how a simple switch can determine the depravity of a robotic individual

Just add global warming / climate change to the mix & you have 3 very realistic potential existential threats that loom in the not too distant future. (Add in nuclear warfare & fallout and you have 4 of them now. ...yeah... it seems extremely unlikely that we'll make it to the 22nd century. Not to mention that it's theorized that if Yellowstone were to erupt, it would also be apocalyptic.)

Global Warming is a natural process and also pretty slow. Nuclear warfare is basically playing the game of stupidity. As dumb as some of our battles are it would take a massive amount of acceptance for a nuclear war to become possible. What is there for the enemy to fight for if they aren't even going to survive? A fallout wouldn't mean end of the humans. There will likely be survivors, there are indeed nuclear bunkers in the world. Humanity will have to rebuild but it's not at all the end of it. Yellowstone erupting is like saying you became the first quadrillionare, a extremely low chance especially anytime soon. The idea of the "end of the world" will definitely happen but it's not at all something to focus on. We don't have control over it, and most likely it would all happen in a flash. People have been speaking of the end of the world for years upon years, and people predict it's going to happen every year. It's simply not something you can predict. And as far as a robotic war goes most of the super high tech wouldn't come around to the public for years, and with tech comes good things. Like how they're trying to replace America's soldiers with robots and them be controlled off the battlefield, that and endless production the US would be invincible. The only country which has that ability besides us is Japan, and they are allies anyway.

Anyways, simply saying "that's too unlikely to happen" to anything bad that can happen is a really bad idea because then you're not even thinking about what you can do to avoid it.
