I've said it a million times, but I'm not attractive, I'm short and yet I never wanted for a girlfriend, because I learned those ideas of height, wealth, attractiveness are either untrue to most or resorting in the most fickle of people you attract.
What I do have is sense of humour and some basic empathy. That goes a long way. Maybe personality too.
I never had a situation where I had to pay for everything. I either made it clear it's 50-50 up front or we do other things that don't really require much money. If I was wanting to take my girlfreidn to somewhere that was more in my interests and not hers, as a matter of etiquette, I'd pay for it, obviously.
If you're going to get situations where someone insists on paying for everything then maybe you shouldn't be dating those people anyway.
It's not good to bring a wingman or another to salve anyone's insecurities. Not unless the other person has other people they've brought too.
Far better to be open and honest and don't try to hold stuff back, or lie either.
It does show a lack of imagination frankly.
I've often gone about where I live, Lincolnshire being a boring place with nothing going on. It caused some issues with trying to work out what to do on date nights. It either meant travel to a city like Peterborough, or trying something a bit different.
So, I'd choose things like making up picnics and go down the marshes, or go to a nature reserve. If you still want to spend money you can still do things cheaply. You don't need to flash wealth around.
I used to love going to Peterborough and bowl. As I sometimes worked late, the bowling alley there used to have a late night thing where it was cheaper and you could stay for ages. It was great.
