Toxic
When a person calls not just one person, but an a group of tens of thousands of people toxic in a flamboyant way to gain attention, then they leave.

If that happens on Steam Forums, they're Trolling. If it happens on Twitter, it seems they're more likely to stick around and that maybe due to the lack of anonymity there, or at the very least, it's more difficult to create a new persona.

I've heard CEO's of decent-sized companies calling their customers toxic.

I never liked the term, initially because it which definition they were using of the word. Now it's clear that this is a newly defined word, not yet in the dictionary. Difficult to have a conversation when you're defining new words. But time. and improvements to google.com, has made available what's the most likely definition:

Toxic: Lack of empathy

That's also the definition of a narcissist, sociopath and psychopath.

The main reason I dislike the term. Because it's encouraging what they say they're against. Contradiction. Calling a group of people Toxic in this way, or a CEO doing the same, it's only going to encourage what you call negativity, this time against you almost using a racist blanket statement against a large number of people.

I've never met one irl. Do people that call others toxic, it's easy to say they're trolling, but we don't know if they pickup the mic, say toxic, and drop it. Should the default response be something like "Oh I feel so bad for you." How would a mental health provider handle it in order to keep the peace, get a response from the person that said toxic and make sure they're ok?

A lot of people slinging that word around do not seem to be aware its description fits their own behavior as well, and have no intention of changing.

any tldr? or is it just another op expressing opinion intended to demonstrate their false good will?

"Toxic" isn't a word you can use to describe human characteristics with. I can understand your confusion. Maybe that chief executive officer isn't the one you should be following.

tl;dr

until there's a proper definition of the word in how it's used today. if you were to use the word toxic in order to describe a group of people, maybe try replacing it with another word. i have yet to find a person in a rational state of mind use the word as it's used today in social media.

not 5 minutes ago I had this reply to another post.

No ARPG higher than PoE sadly.
Last Epoch is probably your best bet th, it's #2 on my list for sure.

In terms of the most toxic community? It is ridiculous, NEVER BEFORE will you see half the posters here toxic players who DO NOT WANT to see the game improve.
Try Grim Dawn and Last Epoch, seem like devs that care about players and don't give QoL features to console players and not PC for whatever bloody reason. It's freaking ridiculous, you can't make this stuff up!

My rule is anyone that uses an adverb, specifically the word "actually" twice in one sentence, is full of it. This person used the word toxic twice in the same sentence. From this comment you'd think the thread was hostile, no. There was a cool laid back conversation and this loon runs in waving their arms like a car just crashed. That's not news or valuable to the conversation or valuable to our lives or even worthy of believing a word they'd ever say again.

if only it were that simple. granted the ceo (of a studio) didn't call anyone toxic, but used the word to define undesired behavior in their forums, so in a sense they were calling a potential group of people toxic and didn't define what that meant.

Your options are to cry or stop supporting it.

I bet they used the word in a figurative sense.

Oftentimes being figurative confuses the heck out of people.

Well, as you know words have certain meanings and these days they get applied

"Left or right", or at least to a lot more things than they once were.

Not saying that's a bad thing but it definitely is a change from how things were before.
Also if you get to the point of starting to question another person's perspective of how you use those words or don't use those words, and in a way questioning their mindset/mentality.

Well, that's definitely not a good thing... At least IMHO

If you basically use things like that or 'newspeak' as a form of a weapon, kinda bad.
For you if not for the other people involved, I always look at it like that.
Typically when someone starts out their conversation with an inhale and saying "Well" -- they're not here to be rational. You are. Nice comment. You also pointed out the silliness of pointing out someone's political preferences to summarize that person's intent, if people were that black & white then the point of a conversation would be to divide and segment and categorize people.

In that example I listed above in that quote that just happened, they weren't being figurative, they were a completely private account, I see it didn't link properly, below is the thread.

Using the word is childish attention seeking behavior, like Mattmoo pointed out, it's related to talking about politics, to me the common use of the word left, right, and toxic all resemble racism. You can't have a discussion if you're racist against the other side's point of view.
