Toxic
When a person calls not just one person, but an a group of tens of thousands of people toxic in a flamboyant way to gain attention, then they leave.

If that happens on Steam Forums, they're Trolling. If it happens on Twitter, it seems they're more likely to stick around and that maybe due to the lack of anonymity there, or at the very least, it's more difficult to create a new persona.

I've heard CEO's of decent-sized companies calling their customers toxic.

I never liked the term, initially because it which definition they were using of the word. Now it's clear that this is a newly defined word, not yet in the dictionary. Difficult to have a conversation when you're defining new words. But time. and improvements to google.com, has made available what's the most likely definition:

Toxic: Lack of empathy

That's also the definition of a narcissist, sociopath and psychopath.

The main reason I dislike the term. Because it's encouraging what they say they're against. Contradiction. Calling a group of people Toxic in this way, or a CEO doing the same, it's only going to encourage what you call negativity, this time against you almost using a racist blanket statement against a large number of people.

I've never met one irl. Do people that call others toxic, it's easy to say they're trolling, but we don't know if they pickup the mic, say toxic, and drop it. Should the default response be something like "Oh I feel so bad for you." How would a mental health provider handle it in order to keep the peace, get a response from the person that said toxic and make sure they're ok?

From what I do know, those terms are only known to people who do use them; What's ironic, however, is that those people do also tend to use them incorrectly, many times being unaware of what do they mean and stand for in the first place.
Even the term trolling is very much unknown to me..

If one wants to communicate with me, then such terms can't be used without proper explanation.. Unless the person doesn't mind when I don't get their point because of that.

western society promotes a toxic hardcore left wing way of life that very often includes tons of gaslighting, projecting and general woke crazyness where these scumbags literally flip the script acting like you are the bad one even though it's them

it has become a big problem in society bc most people tend to just project their shortcomings onto others mainly those who don't have those negative traits and even more so those who have the complete opposite positive traits

It seems like people don't even bother no more if it's extremely blatant that they are in the wrong -> they still insist it's you and stick to it no matter what ( no use; ignore them; cut them out of your life; greyrock )

it's an extreme form of gaslighting that i advise good people to watch out for. There are many lads who have been completey gaslit and scapegoated and it takes people quiete a while to "get out of the fog" ( reddit narc parents - psychopathy - dr.ramani on youtube are some great channels to look into that crazy abyss :D )

Cheers and GL
Ngl the gaming community is pretty toxic. Not everyone but more than 10k people, that's for sure.
People usually re-define things to suit their own necessities. It is those who follow after and sheeple along that are the real problem. It could have been nipped in the bud from the beginning if they used some good old common sense.

I prefer to go with the my old stand by quote when this happens. It was when Ben Kenobi was talking to Han Solo after they came out of the hidden storage compartment on the Millennium Falcon after being tractor beamed on the Death Star.

Quote: who is more the fool ... the fool or the fool who follows?

Those are the real Toxic people.

  • Trolling or baiting arguments
Click the Rules link top right, there it uses the term trolling.

Asmongold called Twitter a platform built on "oh by the way's". Luke from Linus Tech Tips called Twitter a platform built on promoting negativity.

Think about Steam Forum design. It's not as bad, but it shares similarities:

The one thing I thought about, why are some devs in reddit but not steam forums, why does steam forums have the rap that it does. Anyone can figure it out if they asked those questions. Look at Elden Ring, most popular steam forum atm I believe, a couple weeks ago I saw 15 threads on page 1 that were "Just Now", and that "Just Now" continued onto page 2.

That could be too much in order to get your post read, and it might take a dozen or so to read it before it's replied to. Then the patterns learned for that poster of what's needed to get their thread being discussed. The patterns those that participate in that thread become invested in the issue and will want to discuss it further. It creates like a culture around the popular threads. Then, in order to get attention and replies is exactly how he states near the end of that clip you mentioned.

These people getting banned, might not be who you think would be bannable, perhaps they just wanted someone to talk about what they wanted to talk about, nobody did, so they learned what's needed to get people to talk about what they want to talk about, found what people are talking about and finally was able to talk to others regarding what they posted. It might not have been what they originally wanted to talk about, but they've learned, and "beat that game's first boss". Over time they'll learn how to create threads to start conversations about what they originally wanted to talk about and will eventually "beat that game". - src

Everyone's a producer. I think Anchorman (below) did a great job of showing a boring news show turned into one filled with drama and suspense by not reporting the news. This could be interpreted to mean: most of the content of social media is fake news. And it wouldn't exist if we weren't more biased to focus more on negativity over positivity.

by the way, positivity is a term that steam says is misspelled and we must add it to the dictionary. I remember old versions of Microsoft Office did the same thing.

Melvin Junko. . . .
What context?
I'm now convinced that Toxic is a word far worse than I had originally thought. It's used to create a boring untopia. Where everyone has the same opinion as you and those that differ are targeted by lifeless souls that lack empathy and agreeing that people are different. Sometimes those that use it want power to control a mass of people. Sometimes some people that are responsible for curating a lot of content feel that's their responsibility.

Toxic is now a derogatory word.

I choose to get a red flag before entering a conversation with someone that uses the word. In steam you can add word filters todo thati and Toxic is the only word on that list for me.

You're toxic, I'm slippin' under

I'm addicted to you
Don't you know that you're toxic?

All that word makes me think of...

I wish it were that easy. Today people in charge of companies see it as a virus and those that call someone toxic immediately gain negative attention from those that pay them and they begin looking for reasons to hate that person.

it's a derogatory word
i relate it to racism
toxic, over rated words ,I dont want to really understand, because it will most likely to be a painful lesson.
