But it's going to be spelled/said differently depending on the case, and there are six main cases in Russian. That and the cyrillic alphabet makes it far more complicated to learn than a more closely related language with articles.

In my opinion.
Look at the Serbs. They use Cyrillic and Latin alphabets. Phonetically, the two are close to each other. The same ways is with the Russian and Bulgarian but writing in phonetic English is unofficial. The good thing about these languages are that the pronunciation rules are simple.

I think learning how to pronounce things correctly is easy. Learning which case to use when there are so many, and memorising the declension patterns and grammatical contexts is a whole other story. I've been learning classical latin for years, and it's the six primary cases which continue to make it so difficult. Probably the #1 type of query in Latin groups concerns cases. Maybe this is a bad assumption, but I'd expect that with Russian too.

Yeah, the 6 cases are the most annoying part. I somehow find them easier than the tenses in French.
Thats an odd way to say gaelige.
Personally I think it's Norse runes that are most beautiful.

Not really.

All languages have their foibles for good and bad. I particularly like the Russian language for it's simplicity - the lack of gendered articles for example makes it easier to pick up than say, French.

For example, if you want to say "there is the bridge" you say "there bridge" (or "mot most").

I don't disgaree. I'm merely trying to (clumsily) point out that for a lot of things there aren't pronoun articles in sentences (like the "there is a bridge" example I gave).

Learning the cyrillic alphabet isn't that hard to be honest. Granted it is an extra hurdle but it's nowhere near that hard. You can pick it up in a matter of days.
Nope, this is not a beautiful language!
