YouTube Vids and Monetisation

I have just spent 5 minutes which is a long time trying to find a review of a Steam game and have failed to find anything worthy of watching without my blood boiling.

All the vids are so monetised I couldn't get even a few seconds of video before the 'next' ads kicked in to ruin my desire to find a simple game review.

What I would like to know if these YouTube posters still get paid even if we just click on and off their off their junky awful vid. This appears fraudulent to me.

I'd like to think these morons shouldn't get paid unless their mostly dreadful videos are watched fully through as I have spent hours upon hours aborting vids that just end up being lies and utter crap and not as advertised. Is there any criteria at all for being paid or not?

I'd be very grateful if their is someone who can iron this out for me as the reality is tedious and time consuming at best and depressing at worst.

Sooo, you never used Ublock? Or you know, other adblockers? Like, for me and for years, it's been like "What are ads?" I didn't even know such a thing existed (/s) until you told me about it. But yes, ads bring them money. Not much but it does. You can just block them.

uBlock and other extensions make the internet a much cleaner place, you should try it. Some sites lose half the stuff on them which shows how many sites are mostly paid advertising.

And some websites have absolutely disgusting amount of ads. (I tested it at times.) Like, a full page with ads every "levels" of the webpage with content in-between. It's nasty...

This is Steam Discussions. Things about Steam. There's the Off-Topic section for everything else.

Ads played results in a share to the creator, or otherwise ads done within the video, usually the 2nd as adblockers are becoming more of a tool for regular people. Playing the whole video helps statistics and recommendations, but these have nothing to do with Steam.

From a quick google search, most of their revenue comes from "ad views" and YouTube seems to make a distinction between ad views and video views. YouTube themselves says "There are no guarantees under the YouTube partner agreement about how much or whether you'll be paid. Earnings are generated based on a share of advertising revenue from viewers watching your video."

So no, they don't get paid based on views alone, which makes sense, there's no incentive for YT to pay you unless you're generating ad revenue for their ad sponsors.

No worries, I understand. But yes, this link seems to describe it well. It does not tell how many ads can a video have, though. Only that a video has to be eligible to get ads. I may have found a link that gives more details about the requirements. This should interest you:

Use Ublock, fully update it. I never got a single ad. But yes, youtube is planning some kind of revolution in 2024 or something. Supposedly, that will break some adblockers in the future. In my case, I heard of your situation but Ublock always protected me from it so far.
