Hardly ever use voice chat. How do you deal with social anxiety?
Call me a ♥♥♥♥♥, but I'm too anxious to use voice chat. I really want to, but before I can I usually just quit the server out of fear. I've got no problem talking to strangers in real life, I just struggle with communicating online. Does anyone else ever feel like this?

sometimes it happens to me when I got nothing to say, but I don't mind, even if I have a broken engrish I don't mind joining a voice chat.
If you got a problem by voice chatting in game then that still applies irl in my assumption because SAD isn't one sided. You can treat yourself from buying fluoxetine caps. It'll make you easier in a slow process but seek a psychiatrist first when you need to.
Poorly, but I'm not worth talking to, so nobody is missing out by me not talking to them.
I find it easier talking to people online if there's something that were doing together. In CSGO, most of the people I met during the early ranks were nice. But then as I ranked up a little, I met a lot of douchebags. You can't escape douchebags in online games. But you learn to deal with it depending how strong your will is.

If you don't want to play a competitive game while using voice chat, play VRchat or some other social game with VC and talk to people. You will still meet douchebags though no matter if it's a social game or pvp game.
Just say short sentences or one letter

I use VC so little i remember everything I said on it

“Testing” (when I first got my mic)
“I failed” (after getting to the bomb too late, and it blew up while I was defusing it)
“Sorry”
And
“B”

Yes this was all in Counter-strike
I'm comfortable talking on mic but started with voice acting to copy characters in-game just for fun. You can always try a voice filter too if it's your voice that you're worried about your voice.
If you got anxiety about people online and you wanna get into playing games like Squad/ARMA/HLL (~10-15 people squads).... Then start with stuff like Deep Rock Galactic (Co-op, 3 teammates) or Hunt: Showdown/APEX (Pvp, 1-2 teammates). Usually chill.

And like Hedgehog said just keep it simple. Most Deep Rock Galactic matches have under twenty words spoken on the mic during a 30-45 min match.

It’s backwards for me. I can’t talk in real life but I can talk thru voice chat.
You wont be able to play destiny 2 in that case
I have the same problem.
Same I don’t use voice chat often and if I do it’s usually random cause I don’t want someone randomly joining my Xbox party in Xbox when going in voice chat
after 5 years, are you stil too shy to use vc? or are you brave to use it now? but nobody is using vc now a days, so now its too late.
lol, I still hate having to use a telephone, so...
Don't use it anymore. Most games have a built in ping system that works way better then hearing your voice, and the world has more then enough people talking sh*t.

I know the problem well. There is no way you would ever get me on a mic.

Anxiety is apprehension. It is the fear of what is going to happen. That's why you are fine with strangers, because you didn't sit around worrying what was about to happen, you just get pulled in to a conversation on the spur of the moment. Picking up the phone, joining in with a game chat, the are way different because they give you time to worry beforehand. Even if it is only a few seconds, it's still enough time to say "no, I'm not going to do that.".

So the key to this is to do whatever reduces that worry.

I think one of the fist things you could do is practice with completely random people before you try it with people you do know. Also, the idea of using a voice filter is a good idea. Don't be yourself, be a character you "design". Effectively you are hiding behind a mask and that will help.

The other alternative, of course, is you choose a path to just reduce your anxiety and not bother with a mic. The problem with that is many people won't understand and will question why you are hiding. The sad truth is that people will judge you more for not using one than for using one.
