Yup. Butter, ice cream, Coke, Snickers: They're basically carnival foods, but then there are shops that sell funnel cakes and such all year 'round.
Poutine
Beaver Tails
Maple syrup
etc
It's not just the US.

"the $10.50 price rivaled some health plans' co-payments for a visit to a cardiologist."

edit: i tried find link of our snackbar on youtube but it is dubbed in german somehow xd
To be fair though, deep fried butter is almost certainly less fatty than just straight butter, 'cause you need flour to make the batter. Honestly sounds a bit like a pastry dessert , kinda like a cream filled eclair. This example almost even looks like an eclair[www.pinterest.com] with the icing on top of it. It makes you wonder how they managed to dunk the butter in the frying oil without it melting away into the oil though. Kinda sounds like that should be near impossible.
Speaking of eclairs, it also reminds me of the Simpsons episode Guess Who's Coming to Criticize Dinner, when the chefs plot to kill Homer with a super fatty eclair that was meant to give him a heart attack.
adds crunchiness and flavor
