GOG for some good deals and a good library of classic games, some of which aren't on Steam.
And the benefit of being able to completely get rid of achievements.
They're annoying and pointless and nobody over the age of 12 cares about them, and disabling them really should be an option with Steam.
That being said, while I forgot the repository name (edit: comet[github.com]), there is a WIP project that enables GOG features like achievements on Linux without using Galaxy at all.
They're a part of Steam's gameplay data gathering apparatus.
People can use OS' besides Windows, but using a launcher besides Steam is tough. Allowing people to disable it would encourage the very user base whose data they want to extract value from, people who know how to install Linux, to disable it.
Amuro0079, your wasting your breath. You can't convince fanboys no matter what you say because they simply won't listen.
Throughout the years on these forums, users have slated other companies for doing bad anti-consumer practises while at the same time will defend, keep silent, turn a blind eye or simply make some excuse if valve does the same thing. And if you call them out, you are called a shill or some other name.
I like steam, it's my first choice for PC gaming but im also not stupid, I know the value of money and I know how and where to spend to maximise my spending ability. I would be silly to spend more money buying a game on steam if that same game is sold cheaper elsewhere...
I have games on Steam, GoG and Epic, and they're all fine.
I tend to go for Steam when applicable just because the others don't have trading cards, but that's really my only preference.
But at the end of the day, even though fanboyism is unhealthy, sometimes it's necessary if it means that a game is made exclusive to one platform, for example. It gives a message that people would rather wait for the game to be available on more platforms than ever buy on the exclusive one, for example.
Cannot speak for regional pricing.
Gog I now buy games from because once bought in theory I am not beholden to keep updating the OS for games that already work on my system.
I like the layout of GoG and they have great sales. The games are not as numerous nor as regularly 'new' as Steam.
But for me and my tastes I am happy with GoG. You can just go on there not even sign up and look around what to buy.
As usual I put stuff I like look of on wishlist and wait for sales.
Sleeping Dogs with the expansions got a for a £2.50 or somethng silly compared to what a great game it is. - note that game does not work well on low end systems and adjustments need to be made if using low end system.
Hitman Blood Money replaying that again £2 soemthing.
Close Combat 5 dated by today's standards but I just love the gameplay on it.
