Do you listen to ASMR?
...and I wonder why most of the people who make ASMR are women.

Because lonely straight guys apparently really like the sound of a chick slurping on their ears for some reason. :SafeForWork:

I've only seen some indian "massage" videos, no idea how anyone can relax to it, but the videos I've seen were pure chaos and I loved every second.

It's been studied that only around 15% of the world's population is actually able to experience ASMR, so that's likely one reason why it seems weird to most (85%) people because they cannot relate to the content in any way. It has no effect on them.

I wouldn't discredit the minority that does feel it. Especially when it is just a feel-good thing, and even comes with proven health benefits.

But that doesn't explain why it's so popular tho.
Because it seems like it's way too popular for something that only actually appeals to 15% of the population

Not really. There are millions who experience it because 15% of something like billion people is still 150 million. And of course someone doesn't have to be experiencing ASMR necessarily in order to watch it either. They could watch it just due to its calming nature, not because they experience sensations from it.

But the reason ASMR is so huge as an overall thing is because there is a smaller but very dedicated minority that experiences strong reactions from it.

People who experience ASMR are more sensitive to oxytocin and multiple brain chemicals due to differing gene sequences in the brain from the rest of the population. So it's kind of a neuroatypical thing too.
