growing up rap was initially that annoying sounding people.
Then with the limited scope of music i had back then hearing MC Hammer you cant touch this and the dancing and Vanilla Ice being all cool sounding (I was young!) I started to like individuals rather than the genre.
In school we did a thing on Benjamin Zephaniah who at first was yet more work to do but we got to watch teh vhs video of him and his poetry and interview . He became cool guy and i more or less forgot about him until after few years out of school and his name popped up every now and then.
I'll spare the forums my essay of listening to various rap of past 30 odd years.
I'll listen to Ren again see what he is about some more.
Metal and Rap together is just speaking very fast....
Guns and Roses if anybody is interested in Garden of Eden not to be mistaken for gadda da vidda a truly great song but not for here.

Might be pushing it a bit me putting it in this category.
I like both rap and metal. I grew up as more of a metalhead but I think I've shifted more towards rap as I've matured. Generally I don't like a lot of the mainstream garbage rap and tbf I don't like most of the more-mainstream metal either.
I do listen to metal sometimes, but I lean heavily towards older metal since it seems the majority of modern metal bands have strayed down one of two paths: Whiny p*ssies or edgy death/black metal.
Prog metal and power metal are still very much alive and kicking, though.

what hip hop do you like?
There's good and there's bad in every genre, and with how popular rap has become, most people have extremely limited exposure to what's actually out there unless they're actively searching. Saying that rap music is bad, as a blanket statement, is like me saying that rock music sucks, and then you find out I've only heard Nickelback and Imagine Dragons. You'd be like, "oh yeah ok, that makes sense. You're wrong, but that makes sense."
I can show you harsh noise metal and I can show you melodic rap music.
These things are not mutually exclusive.
You really can, though. That's like me saying metal can't get away from growling vocals. It's simply not true. There's diversity in all genres.
