I can understand that.

For me I've always amassed stuff and never sell it because I'm careful with what I buy. I always know myself enough to buy stuff I know I'm going to enjoy for years.

Plus I'm disabled and housebound so I kind of catered for that. So I have thousands of CDs and records as well as all my games and books. It does get trciky to store them though, especially as I only live in a small house.

Why I went back was simply that having thousands of CDs, even if you have them neatly stored can still mean you overlook them regularly. So I carefully went through and picked up stuff I hadn't touched in years. It was great.
May I ask if you have a specific order for storing or shelving them? Like genre or year, artist or how much you like the album?
I can't even imagine thousands, it must feel like living in your own private music store, how cool!
Alphanetised by artist and release. It's the simplest way.

Genre and all that is great if you have smaller collections, but if you go back to it especially if you haven;t touched it from time to time, you can get lost because you may not remember what you grouped something in. The simple reaosn being genres and alll that aren't clearly exclusionary - they can be in more than one camp.

So the simplest is alphabetical by artist, then release. I used this for DJing back in the day as it was the easiest way to keep things in order and to find under ♥♥♥♥ all lighting quickly.

Keep it simple and all that.

Although I do tend to keep any classical recordings separate purely because they aren't as easy to categorise (orchestras and conductors are often listed and confuse things).

So yeah simple is best - always.

And thousands isn't that much really. I have two massive 6 foot high shelving units that store most of my CDs. I have a few more dotted around as they continue to grow (plus you get box sets that don't fit). But it's not difficult f you think about how to use space that's in your house you don't use. Like next to doorways or higher up or the wall. Up the stairs is also a good one.

Your list was in reply to my "there are only 2 good British bands" post. Again the question was not who is it is not well known, most British bands are not good.
Again wrong. I tackled your claim "Britain has bands?"

There was nothing in those three words to say that. YOu can keep wriggling and making excuses but I'm done. Just because you don't understand some words and basic grammar and so on is a you problem. I'm sorry.

Please read what you just said and make your grammar comment again.

I only know of 2 good british bands.
Well, that's ignorance on your part, because there's tons that have influenced the world.

The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Oasis
Slade
Madness
Sex Pistols
Fleetwood Mac (although in later years half American)
David Bowie
The Smiths
The Prodigy
The Stone Roses
Pet Shop Boys
Radiohead
Joy Division (and New Order - the group that had the biggest selling 12" single of all time)
Pink Floyd (you know the group that have the biggest selling album of all time that stayed in charts the longest?)
Rolling Stones
Queen

You never heard of ANY of those, most of whom are massive record breakers around the globe?

As you can see, your list was in reply to exactly what I said. 😊

No you demosntrate where my grammar's off please. If it's wrong I'll happily change it.

If you mean typo, I make no apology for that as I'm disabled and can never be arsed to correct properly because you clearly understand what I'm saying.

So have at it - present the evidence for your claim please.

Oh yes! One of the most charming interior designs I had seen was a bookshelf underneath a staircase, so that literally all the space was used. Quite smart!
Thank you for sharing by the way. I will continue thinking about this some more.

Yeah it's difficult to find things that really work. took me a number of years to sort out and I'm still not there either. It's always a work of progress.

I recommedn looking up design books, or videos home furnishings and such. Even those Youtube channels where people have to live in a tiny house. This give some EXCELLENT ideas about how to poke things into storage :)

What can also be good is if you have any space or corners in a house that can't really be used by anything - you can have shelves that sit laterally and stick out from the walls. You can get really efficient with storage that way.

There should be a comma after the word no, and it's "apologies", plural. There are more in that second paragraph, but you get the idea. Please don't try to lecture others, it's uncalled for and in this case incorrect. We can have civil discussions, if you'd like, nothing beyond that ty.

And again you understood it, so it's moot. I've told you I make typos due to being disabled and not being arsed to edit stuff. Deal with it.

And yes can have civil discussion but only YOU Have dodged, muddied the waters and been dishonest by not tackling the claim directly. Sorry but your actions are demonstrable. Let's just leave it.

Definitely will keep looking up ideas but when it comes to corner shelving and those type of space savers I'd rather keep looking or have a bit of a messy bookshelf! I don't know why, I just don't like that look.
May I ask your record storage? I've seen crates, boxes and some random --harmful-- stacking but any ideas you can toss my way would be great.
Thank you for your time.

Yeah I get you about corner storage. I tend to opt for shlves I can knock up myself - sometimes difficult on account of the disabilities I have of course, but hey.

As far as regular one piece shelving goes I just opt for cheap ♥♥♥♥. Most people I know in the vinyl community just use a certain Ikea shelving unit as they serve well and on account of them always being available you can add to them without fear of them going out of stock.

As for other storage bits, there's a few things I've picked up both from my experience and qualifying as an audio engineer.

NEVER stack vinyl records flat. Always stack them on end with the spines so you have to read them sidewards (if you get my meaning).

If you come across any of those soft vinyl dust sleeves on records THROW THEM AWAY NOW. The same goes if you find them on cassettes or CDs. Soft vinyl sleeves break down over time like all plastics and they "off gas". That gas smells a bit but worst of all forms on the records themselves. It gives a dusty or smoky sheen and you CANNOT remove it - it wrecks the playing surface.

Second if you do buy records I recommend buying Mobile Fidelity inner sleeves that are plastic with rice papaer inbetween. These are excellent and are about £30 for 50. They are excellent at keeping the dust out and keeping the statis away each time you take it out.

And lastly if you can afford it, a vacuum record cleaner. They tend to cost upwards of about £300 (my last one was) but they are FAR better than anything else and extend the life of your records and stylus for years.

As far as CDs go. Isopropyl alcohol is your best friend. 70% is good enough for most things, but 90% is better as it can remove sticky label residue easily. Isopropy even when mixed with distilled water, 50/50 becomes the best way of keeping discs clean and also your laser on your CD player.

That's about it for now :)

Ah I thought it was a language thing. You could have just SAID that.

Let's start again and I hope for the last time. I tackled this ONE point only nothing more - "Britain has bands?"

So I replied with listing a load of bands, as I told you from some of the CDs from the side of my bed right now. It was not an exclusive list or anything just a handful of examples.

You came back by saying "no Cure?" and I explained it was not an exhaustive list. You then tried to say I was referring to you not liking certain groups, to which I explained I said nothing about your tastes in any way. You also then said that you had a problem with me calling you ignorant.

I explained that your CLAIM was ignorantm, not you. And that ignorant wasn't a slur either.

So by clear demonstration I stick to the point and you tried to make excuses and wriggle around.

So again nothing changes the fact that you said "Britain has bands?" and I listed some. End of.

Let's drop it.

I never replied with "no cure" wtf? I also quoted above that your list was clearly in reply to my other post.

Here it is for the third time:

Alright if that was someone else fari enough. Bit that doesn't change your other posts whic DO as I've said.

Again none of whatever you said changes the point - why can't you understand this one simple thing?

Yup, proof that I've stuck to my claim. So I ask hopefully for the last time so what?
