Star Trek Fans! WTF is this!?!?!

Look. I am not a Trekkie or Star Wars fan. They tend to be fun but not exactly what I would call high-brow cinema or Television. Just something neat to watch.

But after another forum poster mentioned a line from Voyager, I started to go down the rabbit hole of IMDB, just to see what I some of the Trek actors were up to...

And I found THIS! Star Trek: Renegade.

How did I not know about this? What is this? How did they get so many Trek actors to reprise roles? How is Chekov still alive? Why is Dax back to being Jadzia? Why is Parker Lewis a Star Ship captain, and losing (That is a joke for you older folks)? Why is Robert Picardo playing Zimmerman and not the Doctor? How is Nichelle Nichols still alive? And playing Uhura? Did I just discover the Star Wars Holiday Special of Star Trek?

Has anyone seen this.. THING?

I've heard about it, but not watched it. Just seen clips like the one you posted. Some people feel the need to keep the early Star Trek series alive. I would like to see a new series, but not a carry over of any past series. Something new.

That is a lot of juice for a fan series. I remember that one, Star Trek Continues with Grant Imuhara and James Doohan's son playing Scotty. This seems... larger in scope.

It is. Seems they managed to get a lot of funding for it. They are currently taking donations for episode 2 as well.

I was under the impression that CBS sent them a cease and desist order? Has that been settled or am I thinking of a different Star Trek "fan" project?

If I go by the Wiki (I know, bad idea) then it doesn't seem this one was sued. However, I didn't really look into it beyond that.

I was pretty sure that was Star Trek Continues that got C&D from CBS, since it was a continuation of the classic series. Of Course CBS Paramount owns it all, so I have no idea.

The one with the C&D order I think was Star Trek: Axanar. Basically they raised a million dollars in Kickstarter funding and then CBS said no way Jose! It's not exactly a fan film when you use KS funding to give yourselves salaries.

Studio Cat! Renegades I think has Checkov as the head. Starfleet guy I think. I only saw a part or something they did but Dax wasn't in it. The one I saw had Ethan Phillips sans Neelox getup and Chase Masterson as an Orion. I was surprised so many original TV actors were on board with it. I even think I heard Tim Russ talk about Renegades at the last ST convention I went to a couple years back.

A lot of people have apparently joined the cast for Episode 2, and are getting added to the wiki. And well, all I can say bout it is pretty cool. I like the crew. A member of the Singh family, Icheb the upgraded and angry Borg, A Betazed who can control people, One of those guys who look like Princess Leia while disguised as a Bounty hunter, Mr. Alien Nation himself Gary Graham playing himself, A Holographic engineer, and my first Sci-fi crush Sean Young as the brains. Oh, and a blue hacker with big assets and a Romulan (?) assassin.

It felt a little less like Trek, and a lot more like Trek and Farscape's love child.

You mean the Breen, they look just like the "Yote' Yote' Yotoe!' guys haha.

The Breen were part of DS9, a bit player in Season 4 I think but joined the Dominion in the final season. They had weaponry that cut through all but the Klingons' shields and destroyed the friggin' Defiant in like 4 shots (that sucked ass).
