Should you have kids just to take care of you when you are older?
1. So, I've noticed a lot of boomers, specifically, over the years that have said they had kids so they "have someone to take care of them when they are too old to take care of themselves", or purely to "keep the family name going".

2. On the opposite side, I've noticed more Gen Xers and Millennials that have said they would only have/had kids if they "could give those kids a better life than they had". (and as a side note this reason was also one of the more common ones among the "Greatest Generation" a.k.a. the Boomer's Parents.)

3. Then, younger millennials and even zoomers that have said bringing kids into the world in its current societal/economic state would be "cruel and unusual punishment" to the kids.

What are your thoughts on these three different reasonings? :SafeForWork:

Uhuh. So if your father is a drunk bastard that beats the crap out of you and your mother considers you a "mistake", you'd stick around and wipe their asses when they are geriatrics?

Pfh... sure. Have fun with that then.

That's a very rude thing to insult someone's parents. Uncultured even.

Besides... Aren't you that one that did mention something about mental ward at some point?

So, abusive parents are worthy of respect? You shouldn't insult abusive parents?

Not only do you expect people to take care of them, but they cannot even talk badly of them. Interesting take. A delusional take, in fact.
It only seems reasonable that if society put them into the circumstances where they acted in that way then society should take care of the consequences as well. For its own sake, if nothing else.

So, I think the state should take care of them. This may come as a surprise, but welfare is often unpleasant by design. For political reasons, nothing more.

And maybe if it wasn't purposefully unpleasant to be alive, these hypothetical parents would not beat my hypothetical self.

The state has a hand in that, whether it wants to acknowledge that or not.

you should have children period.
to purposefully not have children is the most selfish thing you can do.

When did I say my parents are abusive? In fact they spoiled me too much. I could've used some discipline, but... eh... kinda too late for that. At least they didn't kick me out yet.

Care to answer my question? Hmm?

There should not be the expectation that your children will take care of you in your old age. Once they're an adult, they're an adult, and you have no say over their actions. If you were a kind and loving parent then they may repay the favor out of their love for you, but it is not an obligation

Personally, I love my parents and would drop everything to help them, but I wouldn't expect the same response from someone who's parents abused them while they grew up

Lots of people are happy being cats and other animals, pushing the human population upwards over preference is more selfish and degrades quality of life more for all.

This is fine by me. If state is willing to support these people, sure.
Although sometimes even that's not exactly viable.

I hope a friend who works with elderly and some of them are abusive to such an extreme that they made her feel suicidal a few times. And this is a very strong individual we are talking about.

Independent, physically fit, active, dominant personality...
Some people are just awful.. to a point where taking care of them is detrimental to whoever is attempting to do so.

They were too guilty over what they'd done to support you, and the only thing they had to offer was spoilage.

Not everyone is Grandpa.

No, I want to know. And if you indeed might be an ex-committed, why do you expect people to take you seriously? On top of that, why do you constantly judge people so harshly? You should be grateful they didn't ostracize you completely.

Wtf? At this point you are pretty much distributing defamatory disinformation.

Are you so booty blasted by my philosophy on abusive parents that you feel a need to spread dumb rumors like that? You are disgusting. Last time i bothered talking to you. Lunatic.

Okay. My bad. It's called differently in english. But you did post something like that on 1 Oct. I remembered well.

Anyway. My parents weren't abusive. Abusive would be like slamming child into a wall or something. Reminds me how parenting went to hell in the area since that promised 500 bucks per extra child and stuff like that became more common.
