Depends on your definition of "worth".

There are tons of tax, medical, insurance, and other monetary benefits to getting married in most countries.

There is the whole "love" thing.

So yeah it can be "worth it", unless you hate the person and don't get any legal benefits, then it likely isn't "worth" it.

Weddings aren't needed but some like em but sometimes getting married first then a wedding later is better it just depends.

There is no such thing as a late wedding so you can have it when your young wife is now old or your old wife is now older or when your wife finally has the plans for it and agree on it.

Alot of people get married first before weddings. It not like the movies where your always having a wedding unless your wealthy and even then it not the movies because people won't reject as they don't actually matter it just what the bride and groom thinks matters.

Especially if you are a man. Most women nowadays have delusions of grandeur. They are terminally online on facebook and instagram where they look all day at how the 1% live. And they want that life. They want the man to provide them with that life.

They want expensive restaurants, holidays, to be driven around in nice cars. In return for nothing.

They are not content with getting a normal job, raising kids, chilling with you and not blowing away insane amounts of money.

Good luck finding a woman in her 20s who lives in the real world.

Depends on the country. Tax breaks are nice.

But if you're living in a place where there's incentive for the less affluent spouse to file for divorce for financial benefits... Then yeah, betting that you'll stay together and that they won't just take half your wealth is a giant risk.

coupling is for kids.
thats why they give tax discounts only accesable for those who are registrated as married.
It is also by far the cheapest way to arange your inheritance without needing a notary.

does it need to be as expensive an ordeal? no a few hundred to get the paperwork suffices. no need for big parties. one day of the week it is even free but than you cannot bring in any guests.

on top of that :

as a christian : no living together, sex and children before marriage.

sadly the state in my nation does not allow such a church service to take place without prior to that service having obtained those state marriage papers. (cant get married for church unless married for state first)

but again do not neccecairy need to make as big an ordeal of it. as member that church service is usually free. but a few hundred for heating in winter can easely happen.

so all in all getting married can be done for free or at most 500 euro if you want guests present during both the state and church marriage.
-anything else is completely optional and should only be done if it is important to you and you can afford it.

no engagement ring, moderate wedding rings.
loaning a car from a friend or drive with own car.
have friends make photo's
using a normal nice dress
and renting a cheap location and do the catering yourself..

can have all that and still keep spending under 2k

you should not delay your life together cause you first need to save up for years. nor live in sin for that vanity of saving up. nor plunge yourself deep into debt.
