I reported you and sent some farts in a box in your mail.
if I have to I say : Red Alert 2
but honorable mentions for these :
Warcraft III
Rising Lands
Rise of Legends
Total Annihilation
Empire Earth
Age of Empires 2 As it WAS (cdrom version) was also good.. but I not like what they made of it.
2.) Warcraft 3
3.) Age of Empires 2
4.) Red Alert 2
5.) Battle Realms
6.) C&C Generals
7.) Dawn of War: Winter Assault
8.) Company of Heroes 2
9.) Mud and blood 2
10.) Northgard
I'm too old for high APM games nowadays so I just play Mechabaellum and Direct Strike lol.
Arguably, I haven' even played any for ages, so I don't even know any current-ish ones.
I laughed in that mission where your leader died and it was not game over but you had to bring him along pickled in a barrel..
-only to open an enclopedia and find out wait what that REALLY happend?
Starcraft is too much about its meta (there's one viable build order per matchup) and micro.
Red Alert 1 and 2 have great singleplayer content but are awful in terms of multiplayer (Light Tank/Rhino tank spam as only viable strategies). Warcraft II and III are also much better as singleplayer experiences.
For multiplayer... I'd say the first Dawn of War was the best experience. I'm on the fence between Dark Crusade and Soulstorm. Dawn of War II is... an acquired taste.
Edit: honorable mention goes to Age of Mythology - it's a macro-focused unit grinder which is more fun than its premise and core would suggest.
