We have achieved world peace.. so what about overpopulation?
Let's just assume world peace has been achieved.

What do you think we should do about overpopulation?

The population has more than doubled since I was a child and the more there are the faster it climbs exponentially.

Should we ask for people to just stop having kids? Make laws about how many?
Who should decide?

Make people take tests to become parents? Forced abortions for those breaking rules?
Sterilization?

I live in the UK and when I fly to europe, I fly over thousands upon thousands of square miles of unpopulated land.. e.g fields, farmland, forests, just unused land and that is only in england. We britain we have a population of about 67 million people and yeah we have vasts amount of land to house another billion or so people. And britain is only a tide island, so I don't believe we are overpopulated.

As then the world lives in peace in a neo-liberal utopia, suicide becomes legal and supported, especially as organ donors .. until our sol system and other star systems can be populated aka Star Trek wise.. then again each livingbeings need to be saved again .. and suicide becomes illegal..
I can kind of see this happening.

Not the Star Trek stuff but the other.

Start a new war or two.
Honestly this seems the most realistic in the end.

I just hope we can avoid that conclusion.
Ritual Sacrifice.

Worked millions of years ago, I'm sure it'll still work today.

But we'd probably need to adapt the rituals for modern savages.
Maybe a cool laser show like the Carousel from Logan's Run.

if we would place all cities on Earth at one place together, this area would be as big as half of Australia "only"

Earth has officially reached the 8 billion mark of humanbeings, while not even 100 years ago there were about 1.8 billion humanbeings on Earth only[en.wikipedia.org]

India has just superseded Chinas population, earlier than guessed

India is the dirtiest place on Earth, especially the indian river Hindus

Mankind do use that many resources a year, we would need about 2 complete Earths to compensate already:

Earth Overshoot Day[www.overshootday.org]

Earth Overshoot Day - individual countries[www.overshootday.org]

your logic fails, a single human needs a dozen of trees for oxygen, more space for vegan food and meat, and that meat needs also vegan food ...

if the whole world would like to live like the western countries, whole south america would need to be converted to be farms, whole africa would be needed to be converted into meat farms, .. while in comparison all cities thrown together wouldnt be bigger than half of Australia..

Overpopulation is a major concern for people in certain spheres and I understand why they would have the objective of keeping world population as it was in the early 1900s, under 1.5 billion even if the consequences of that is to get rid of 6 billion people in the process. When you have such desires you would have to be discrete about it because you're planning to "surpass" anything Mao, Hitler or Stalin did, so you don't execute your plan with force on captive populations but you are more subtle with it, you need plausible deniability.

Even if you adopt malthusian politics, have 400 000 deaths per day for 200 000 births, you would need to wait 112 years to start seeing the difference, if you wanted to accelerate the process I suggest you:

1. endocrine disruptors in water, random products, popular pollutants & contraceptives to favorize infertility.

2. sterilize people through anxiety : make them think the future is uncertain, the world is doomed, etc, to make them have a vasectomy. Finance movements to teach it, make sure younger people adopt your logic in high school and university.

3. convince people to have an operation that will sterilize them as a consequence; don't present it as sterilization but market it as care (health and mental care)

4. mass immunosterilization through other ways, experiment on animal populations before introducing it to human population. this one is good because plausible deniability is strong.

5. apply economical & financial pressure on younger populations so that the majority doesn't even think of having babies when they're in a couple.

I believe all those strategies will work on western demographics but not on populations of countries where people live traditional lifestyles, if you can find a way of creating a doctrine strong enough to destroy traditional values then it's perfect.

Dont forget covid vaccine

Its easy. Just give all the girls phds. Fertility will drop to 0.001 children per couple and we'll have a population crash.

Well first... there will never be "world peace"... and "overpopulation" is just as impossible to "fix"

So there's no reason to speculate on things that will never happen... it's pointless and just a waste of time.

Nature WILL cure the overpopulation problem. Eventually. The same way it does with all species. That coming food/water war will be WWIII. Then the Earth will slowly recover because the destructive population of Humans is mostly gone. Then the cycle will repeat. Humans will overpopulate again.

Nothing needs to be done. Overpopulation is myth. Just look at birth trends. Fertility rates has been declining globally for decades already. Even in Africa, 4.21 children per woman in 2022 compared to 5.24 children in 2000. The most spectacular drop has been in North Africa, where the rate was cut in half in 37 years, from 6 children per woman to 3. The world population will peak in 2050 then it will start coming down.
