What was your scariest experience while online?
For me it was scammers that almost ruined my life. I even remember one guy on Reddit threatening to kill me because I asked a opinion about my beard, lol.

Strange world we live in.

There is a lot of hate and anger in this world and yet, a lot of kindness and beauty too. I’m sorry to hear you dealt with such things.

I don’t have a story but I will say that it’s obvious some people get online after they’ve been drinking; such was the case last night here. It’s important to remember some people harbor a lot of pain and bitterness in their lives and that there is oftentimes an actual person behind the screen who has frailties and faults just like everyone else. That’s not to excuse anything but just to understand. Happy or content people at peace with themselves and with life or others don’t go out of their way to be so negative; it’s already in them.
I guess most people go online to take their anger and pain online just to make themselves feel better. Don’t know why I felt attacked while online when I was just minding my own business.

I had someone I friended in social media and stalked me in real life. She kept messaging me "Where you at (location)?" then ghosted and repeated a few times. It was creepy back then but now I think she was just socially awkward. :marijaonlooker:

Tubgirl and the uncensored internet of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Though it has helped shape me into the well-adjusted and hard-to-offend weirdo I am today. :MMForFun:

I wasn't scared but pretty pis*ed when I caught a virus that wiped out my hard drive
I've once had a few things happen, but they were more alarming than scary. That can be subjective, however, from individual to individual, depending on the experience.

I don't think I've been "scared" online. But I never ran into the insane bozos until I was old enough to deal with them either.

Before Steam forced saving our passwords for the auto login. I would chose to not save the password. So ... that moment of panic when I hit the wrong key typing in my password and thinking my account was hacked.

when i was like 13 i had my own minecraft server and i made some adult guy mad so he and his friends posted about my server on 4chan and a bunch of clowns came and griefed my server, then one of the guys sent a picture of my dad that they found online to my steam friends

i got em back though i sent a picture of the guy's mother to him. he had a real life friend that i met and got the pic through. then i had a bunch of his friends change their profile pics to the pic of his mom

feel like i got pretty good revenge for a 13 or 14 yr old kid vs a bunch of adults trying to leak my personal info for nothing

I was a stamper on the dark web for almost 2 years.

If you don't know what a stamper is or スタンパー as its called in Japan, (where most of my clients live) a stamper is a guy you pay to destroy other peoples lives with prejudice.

Because I have 165 IQ, it was something that consumed me very quickly and I got a good reputation / rating. Plus, once you gain a solid reputation, the money is incredible, far more than anyone would imagine.

My only rules... I will not harm the child of your enemy, or any vegan. If those two things check out, then game on... I will make you enemy beg God from the bottom of a puddle so dank the apocalypse could not invent.

Why did I get scared and vanish like a wounded ninja ? :SlyNinja:

I learned that I was under attack from someone with the same skill set or better, someone who was either jealous or some group who I was stealing clients or ego points from.

It was terrifying at the time, I actually went to my mothers house and just broke down crying, like my life was over ... its the first time I ever experienced true anxiety. and even contemplated suicide briefly.

Anyway, I began a new life, I was successful in erasing my past.

Today in 2023 ( 12 years later ) I run a global fund raising platform focused on supporting animal sanctuaries in 127 nations.

Legends are real
