I've been buying PS3 stuff for the same reason.
So no, it would not set you back much at all nor would it be hard to set up.
Apparently my dad had 2 360s during my childhood (both red ringed immediately quickly, cause I had no knowledge of their existence until he told me waaaay later on). Feel like I missed out, so I got a used one the other day at a book store.
...only to learn it only has 4GB of base storage
...and my router is too new so I can't get the xbox wifi to connect
I am dedicated to getting this thing working. I need to see what the fuss was all about and the idea of troubleshooting it until I get it right excites me
Don't have any games for it besides 2. Daytona USA which I have because its backwards compat on SeS, and a cheap 360 game I got at the book store. It's some bundle with marvel ultimate alliance and forza 2, so neat I guess. I don't like forza and never played marvel but it's mainly to test the disc drive, so whatever.
Apparently you can't play og xbox games if you're using a 3rd party memory expansion pack, but there's a way to "mod" it so that the xbox things it's genuine. Idk how it works but sure, whatever I guess. Just let me play Crash WoC and Sonic Heroes.
Anywho, A pro tip is this - if you're ever buying a 360 AVOID all the original models. The angular slimmer second models are better, but the "E" models are the best and far more realiable.
Memory [packs shouldn't have anything to do with OG Xbox games. Not all games are compatible and you should google the compatibility list.
Easy fix.
It's either the belt or motor has given up the ghost ejecting the tray, or the mechanics need a bit of lithium grease. A cheap fix and an easy one hopefully.
It's one of my most common repairs with so many things from DVD players to consoles.
