AI "art" grinds my gears
I was hoping for this to die down but it's still going strong and I can't repress the urge to scream anymore.

I have ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ enough of AI generated images, but no matter where I look I still see them!

I wanna look at landscapes?
Oh look at this so realistic AI generated landscape!

I wanna look at some abstract art?
Look at those pieces the AI made
Even doe it's just an generation artifacts stacked on top of each other

I wanna down in degeneracy and look at furry handholding?
Well too bad that's also AI generated now

You may be wondering why I am so pissed at AI art, it's because I don't want it shoved down my throat and up my ass, but like no art posting places do anything about it, none of them (that I am aware of or use regularly) have a requirement for AI art to be tagged, and if they were there would be simple solution: "Hide AI generated art" button.
But that's not happening because, universe decided so I guess!

But okay, I could stomach seeing AI art if it was only that, but there is one single thing that pisses me even more.

You know what that is?
AI commisions/adoptables/whatever else that's similar.

My brother in christ, there are artists who spent years getting to where they're now and making living out of their art, you... You are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pressing 2 buttons.
I don't know if it's a hot take or controversial or whatever, but I believe every single AI generated image should instantly become a public domain - royality free image just so ♥♥♥♥ like that doesn't happen.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk and sorry if I wasted ur time.

I thought AI imagery was just a way to bechmark the intelligence of the AI model, I had no idea we would have people generate pictures and say "I'm an artist, I made this :)" but hey...
Then you are missing how humanity works.

We've ALWAYS had people do this, from when people would post images that were stolen off someone else to long before the internet where people would walk into jobs and fake expertise and so on.

Humanity has certain traits, you know?

Artists go first, everyone else will follow.

Or it opens up a different set of opportunities for people, not having to pay money to artists to have some graphics made, or some music to put into their own product. A cost that either opens doors to would-be developers and other types that wouldn't be able to afford those services, or a cost savings passed down to the consumer making other things less expensive for the end-user.

It's not all negative when a bunch of artists are put out of work. In fact, this is probably a net-gain for society.
ai is not real artwork done by you
using a 3d software for years and getting to know the tools and when you make something
or drawing in 3d artwork you know its yours and not something done by ai
many think that they are doing artwork that way and many have reposted the ai artwork and get in hot water even its ai someone owns it with ai its really taking a part from here and there
its really mimic whats all ready out there , think of it as a Frankenstein movie from 1931 a arm from this guy and a head from this guy , ai is a waste of time

Spoken as usual without any foresight.

Artists out of work is not how it will work at allm, because it won't simply be used for art at all. The actors strike has already demonstrated this right now as there are people on that picket line who have given details of being in to be scanned and used in scenes in films without their consent or reward.

And if you think it'll end there, you don't understand how things work at all. Business love tools like this to shortcut.

And what's more even if it were just one chuink of society, the knock on effect will be large too. You now have more people who used to be say, artists, who are now competing for the same jobs you compete for, making things harder.

As ever, nothing occurs in a vacuum.

Yeah? What was your response when Joe Biden promised to shut down coal mining and put thousands out of work, and his response to them was "learn to code?"

Of course - the people who pretend to have drawn by hand something that they generated by AI are obvious, and quite easy to dismiss.

The ones who come forth with an argument that generating AI with a text prompt has some kind of learning curve that should be recognised and respected is what confuses me; half of it is RNG and hoping it lands on the right seed, and the only thing left is selecting a good model, training (if needed), and prompts... 🤔

It's fine if you get a beautiful result but I still feel when the bar of ability is set this low to create something great, the entire scene is boring and to be instantly oversaturated.
Yes, but you're missing the point here.

You claimed that it would be presenting a problem that people would be using AI art as their own - again thsi was patently obvious this would happen as we've ALWAYS done it. Humanity has a long history of doing this with just about everything as I said.

A.I. is an art in itself

you sit there and tell me that Art

ALL ART

isn't derivative of another art

like people who ♥♥♥♥ on elvis for taking that leg swinging from the black community.
like what? He saw a black guy doing the leg thing and it's suddenly the black community?!?

Like that other black dude didn't see it from another black dude or someone else!!!

A.I. art is subjective on how you see art but overall it's the parts of the whole greater than the overall thing. The whole if you sail on a ship and replace all parts slowly over the course of a year is it still the same ship?

Imo A.I. art is the same as regular art and if you wanna make the case then just put the artwork you got the details from

Other art is "inspired" by artists and other works sometimes nature itself.

what i find funny is every artist who sees A.I. art already screams "omg they stole my art"

unless you got really really really really niche art styles it has been done before. Your artstyle is literally a dime a dozen carbon copy of other artstyles. It's p funny in hindsight

but of course it's b/c of the $$$$$
Ferrari would probably be more profitable if they were the only car company available as people would have to suck it up and buy from them. But b/c ford and assembly lines they oversell and overinflate their cars and sell 1 car for $100 grand vs 100 cars for $10 grand

Look i'm not saying A.I. art is good and sometimes it's not. Sometimes it is.

But it's another thing to say it isn't art!

the entire computer science and programming behind making a program A.I. that learns artworks then uses it to generate new similar ones. Or in some cases do good stuff like A.I. used to transcribe ancient tablets in a fraction of a second. Face recognition tech. Etc.

Plus what's to stop artists from A.I. arting their own art?!? Would it be technically stealing then? Is the artist who learns how to code / use simple programs considered an unfair advantage vs the pen and pencil sticks and stone cave drawing artists?

I really do not give a ♥♥♥♥ about art. All art is garbage and repetitive. I do care about people who hate anything new b/c of selfish egoistic or the old $$$$ incentive.

don't care
"artists" are flakes
suffer
Honestly, my issue is less with the AI and more with the AI being trained on illegal, pirated content. They should only be training the AI on public domain material and material they've received explicit consent to use in training AI.
corridors crew using an old anime as to train their A.I when producing the Rock Papper scissors short movie made a lot's of peoples upset.
It has been a dispute in the videogame industry about the rights to copy each other and it end up in the case that ALL the things you can do is inside the engine and if the engine is allowed to be used by someone else in any form or shape or version or even so much a single script identical should not or should be criminal.

It never gets resolved since they said my programmer pushed the button and consider this to be art.

The social experiment accept each other to copy art and this is how we got 99 versions of call of duty.

In fact if we would be entirely judgemental there would be very few cartoons since we would claim too many have copied similarities that they're owned by the company who have copyrighted the design, very similar how disney tried to copyright their movies when there's nothing that really support this than bribes.

Kathleen Kennedy is herself accused by Disney who been bribing her for accepting bribes.
trying to look up reference pics for a hair cut and i see ai nightmare fuel

O_o…
You are attacking art for being repetitive while defending the only type of art incapable of being anything else?

A bit weird of you…
im not

im defending or rather against people who hate something for monetary reasons or higher airs / egos.

i dont mind standardization and mass production of stuff.

best tl;dr ive ever seen

any artist worth their salt won't be intimidated

as on par with any good artist or even photographer when cameras became a thing were never threatened.

it's always the ones who are bad at it that need the crutch
