Anyone can afford a vacation perfectly fine, it doesn't have to be some endless fancy thing. People like vacations and that has nothing to do with "hyper-capitalism" or anything like that, otherwise they just wouldn't go.
vacations don't work the same way everywhere.
In Yugoslavia you may not have as many CNC robots , entire factories run by robots where one guy is employed to watch the machines as guard keepers. Costco did the same as they employed one gut to be a front doot guard to reduce criminal activity, Neither is the employee able to do anything is something happen as the engineer is not stationary, he or she replaces 3 peoples salaries and may as well replace 30 people.
Actually no. Vacation was created with the demand of 8 hours of freedom, 8 hours of work, 8 of sleep.
The vacation is earned as the worker gains days they work. 40 hours a week
In total each employee got saturday as a vacation and sunday wasn't calculated since all were free from work at sunday to be able to be in church.
in total all have right of 192 free hours each year and the paid vacation , those money aren't made by magic. They come from the pension fund. The employer see your sick days as vacations. Most work do not allow longer than a week in sickdays for a reason and it has been systematic to ensure writing down how many days a year you are ill. Because days beyond a week are days they had to pay you.
Counting Saturdays as vacation days when a normal work week in the company goes from Monday to Friday is exploitative already.
But good grief, the concept of sick days (alongside lack of parental leave) is the most repulsive thing about U.S. work culture and labour laws (or rather lack thereof). It doesn't increase productivity, penalises natural body function and encourages people to work when they really should stay at home to protect themselves and their peers.
8 hour work-days were much later.
