Vacations are literally a hyper-capitalistic conspiracy
I saw a poorly made meme a few days back, while of course it was just a joke the more I thought about it the more I felt like it might be up to something.

Vacations are above all just 2 things:
1: Expensive
2: Stressful

Of course no poor family could actually afford a vacation in the first place, but a middle-class family is the perfect fit. Middle-class people usually have quite decent jobs, make a decent amount of money, and have just the right amount of free time, I think that's great for the elite, so let's keep it that way. So how do we do that? well it's simple, make them bleed money and be stressed out even during their holidays where they could relax and feel comfortable about their finances (we don't want that).

It's not a coincidence, vacations are designed so that as soon as you return you have to rush back to work after wasting your money on expensive hotels and plane tickets, do you think people who's jobs involve traveling from country to country pay for expensive plane tickets and stay in hotels? No, it's only advertised to you because it's convenient you bleed money not just for the economy of the country you are visiting but also the country you work in. Keeping you stressed by making flight times just inconvenient enough and pressuring you to see all the tourists sites as soon as possible also means you don't get any funny ideas of using your money to invest in something actually useful or self-improvement or self-reflection.

Moral of the story: Just play video games instead, there is no time limit to stress you out, you have all the time in the world, you only have to pay for them once, and you can probably do everything you can do on vacation in your hometown anyway.

Vacation also existed back in Yugoslavia just as much, no problem, so this entire post is nonsense. If you don't want to go on a vacation, then just don't go. Holy ♥♥♥♥.

Anyone can afford a vacation perfectly fine, it doesn't have to be some endless fancy thing. People like vacations and that has nothing to do with "hyper-capitalism" or anything like that, otherwise they just wouldn't go.

vacations don't work the same way everywhere.

In Yugoslavia you may not have as many CNC robots , entire factories run by robots where one guy is employed to watch the machines as guard keepers. Costco did the same as they employed one gut to be a front doot guard to reduce criminal activity, Neither is the employee able to do anything is something happen as the engineer is not stationary, he or she replaces 3 peoples salaries and may as well replace 30 people.

Vacations are to refresh, so You can work longer and harder. Also good to fulfill the one or other desire, which rises, when You have money, which You get with work. So everything makes sense, as it is a circle like everything in nature...

Actually no. Vacation was created with the demand of 8 hours of freedom, 8 hours of work, 8 of sleep.

The vacation is earned as the worker gains days they work. 40 hours a week

In total each employee got saturday as a vacation and sunday wasn't calculated since all were free from work at sunday to be able to be in church.

in total all have right of 192 free hours each year and the paid vacation , those money aren't made by magic. They come from the pension fund. The employer see your sick days as vacations. Most work do not allow longer than a week in sickdays for a reason and it has been systematic to ensure writing down how many days a year you are ill. Because days beyond a week are days they had to pay you.

Counting Saturdays as vacation days when a normal work week in the company goes from Monday to Friday is exploitative already.
But good grief, the concept of sick days (alongside lack of parental leave) is the most repulsive thing about U.S. work culture and labour laws (or rather lack thereof). It doesn't increase productivity, penalises natural body function and encourages people to work when they really should stay at home to protect themselves and their peers.

"The first legal regulations in Europe date back to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and provided for vacation of three to six working days per year. The first collectively agreed vacation regulations from Germany date back to 1903, when the Central Association of German Brewery Workers, succeeded in negotiating collective agreements with the Stuttgart Ring Breweries and the brewery in Greiz. Under the agreement, employees received three days paid vacation after at least one year service."

8 hour work-days were much later.

Camping comes to mind for low budget vacations. And I never felt a vacation was stressful; that's why I travel often.

Is it ok for people who do have the money and resources to do a vacation trip to do that very thing?
sfnhltb 2023 年 6 月 25 日 下午 1:33
You aren't forced to go anywhere, so there is no conspiracy, just people that can't make their own decisions on what to do with their time and let others tell them what they "should" be doing.
TwisterCat 2023 年 6 月 25 日 下午 1:34
You wouldn't get it. Besides, my last vacation cost 30 bucks.
