But I have many.
I was lucky growing up in Britain in the 1970s. On telly on Friday and Saturday nights we'd get Hammer House of Horror or similarly old classic horror films. I always stayed up late and watched them. They were cheesy as all hell but of course not without brilliant acting from the likes of Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing et al. I was well into them and had a few books on the monster and the film history or horror films.
But it wasn't until Alien happened that really changed things up for me. That was the film that showed how REAL horror could be done n a Hithcock or Poe style way. More "tell don't see".
There's been a few things since then that have been good notes.
I really disalike a lot of modern horror as they're just cheap and thin. There's a few bright lights occasionally though.
Though it's not a particularly great film I do like "The Descent" for a couple of reasons. First it gives me claustrophobia, but best of all it sounds AMAZING in 5.1. I would recommend you try the original DVD version though as the BluRay release has had something messed with that isn't as well balanced.
FOr a similar reason I also love the original Dead Space game. That has by far the best sound design of any video game. Stick that on in the dark with your 5.1 system on and you'll love it.
First time I played that was when my wife had gone to see her dad and I was alone in the dark with the surround sound on and it truly threw sound so well I kept thinking there was people outside. Truly great.
I remember watching the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre in the summer of 2003. I was watching it with a friend from Catholic school, and it was amazing.
might be a toss up between land before time and we're back...
I really don't like the horror genre, because it relies on scientific ignorance.
Having said that I've recommended "Horror Express" in the past ... There's a movie about an evil electromagnetic pattern inhabiting a church, and everyone mistakes it for a devil. I think it was a British or UK production.
A couple of orioginal Star Trek episodes ... Spectre of the Gun, and Wolf in the Fold are kind of creepy.
