The U.S. finally discovered Touring Cars! ;P
Instead of making cars go fast around an oval, they have finally discovered a secret the entire world knew before: You can also make cars go fast around a bendy circuit!

https://youtu.be/kNIEgqZBScw

It only took the U.S. like half a century longer before they discovered this amazing engineering secret! ;P

But jokes aside, given that motorsports are very important for the automotive industry's research and development, I think the U.S. motorsport focusing this much on oval racing is what contributed to the U.S. automotive industry's downfall (alongside overly protectionist trade policies making innovation next to unnecessary).

Do you like oval racing, or prefer bendy circuits?

I'm guessing you also don't realize the U.S. also has had the Trans America circuit races, Nascar road and GP races, stock car road racing, along with American rally and world rally races, and Indycar racing, just to name a few.

The U.S. is good at cornering, but the media only televise the fast ovals for some reason.

No, I didn't realised that. In my mind, probably due to media presence, American motorsports = Cars going around in circles.

As you've said, when it comes to American motorsports, for some reason media only really cares about ovals.
American touring car racing gets next to no attention, unlike the rest of the world, where outside of motorcycle speedway it is practically unheard of. It's the complete opposite.

It´s about a series which also has other tracks. Usually i would think about NASCAR when it´s about ovals. And also the 917 won Le Mans...

The US invented it's own motorsports during Prohibition, when bootleggers were racing each other along smuggling routes. I don't know if they handed out prizes for best hidden contraband compartments.

The earlier French cross country races never really caught on, and kind of died out after the Le Mans disaster.

There are lots of circuits in North America that are not oval, but for some reason races in oval race tracks tend to be the most popular ones by far.

To answer the question... I like all forms of auto racing.
Us burgerbros love the high-speed rings cuz the crashes are fun to watch and when a driver dies all that merch goes up in value so it combines the best of racing, bloodsports and speculating while still being accessible to the lowest rungs of society.

The GT40 is a British car though. Designed, engineered and first produced in Britain.

Yeah, okay, fair. The 'Vettes from C5 onwards are the big exception to the rule,

...because Ford couldn´t buy Ferrari, as that was the initial plan. But Ferrari wanted that the racing department is called "Ferrari-Ford", instead of "Ford-Ferrari", so there was no deal...

Ferrari won Le Mans. The NASCAR car did better than most people thought it would. But it was not faster than the real Le Mans cars.

So instead of buying Ferrari, they ended up hiring discount Porsche (Lola) from Britain. ;P

Well, it worked!

Apparently, they were thrown back by mechanical issues.
