Yeah that's the thing.

It's over 60 years since they first hit the charts. They started out with their first album as very much a sign of the times. A couple of self-compositions, and the rest cover versions. That was how pop was back then.

But by the third album (A Hard Day's Night) half the album was their own writings. And they'd already had a strong of number 1s.

What's more impressive is that in those early years they were touring excessively with very few days off. And turned out TWO albums per year and several single which weren't on the albums.

That's a staggering workload. And the fact that the vast majority of it is timelessly remembered is only more so.

The way to frame this is simple - look at any other group that didn't write their own songs and were manufactured. Even the big ones, and see how long they';re widely remembered AND regularly played across ALL radio and media.

It generally doesn't happen. Some last a few decades at best, others are bargain bin fodder within two years.

I should know having been a DJ for decades and learning audio engineering and having several friends in the "the biz". Record deals nowadays (esp. the 360 deal which you should look up) don't allow for much freedom.

Thats really cool you were a DJ! I don't care if radio is a dying medium, I would love to do it. Or I guess, just audio recordings.

I think the Beatles will be remembered more. A good portion of that was the events of the time, and the Beatles seized on that without being overt

Yeah I ran my own business back in the day, did the mobile DJ thing, and nightclubs too. They were always my favourite thing as I could go on all night if I wanted (for the most part).

But as for the Beatles, yes that's a far point to say they were a sign of the times. It was completely different back then and because of that it's difficult to repeat.

We aren't comparing the musical nature or anything.

We are comparing whether BTS will be remembered as much as the Beatles and have such an impact.

Received. And you make a good point. People tend to evaluate things only in present terms. They discount the time component and how it changes things.

Agreed. The Beatles are one the kings of longevity.

I didn't know you were a DJ. A very good friend of mine DJ'ed in college. Good times.

Quid pro quo. We visited the dilapidated ashram (spiritual retreat) where the Beatles stayed during their time in Rishikesh. I enjoyed the visit because the Beatles wrote at least 45 songs there including many from the iconic White Album. The place is in total disrepair and looks like it's being reclaimed by vegetation. Still, we went into each of the rooms where each of the members stayed and tried to channel them. Why? Cuz they were thinking up the White Album there! That's cool to me.

A couple more Beatles considerations:

The Beatles - While my Guitar Gently Weeps

The Beatles - Here Comes the Sun
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKdl-GCsNJ0

And yeah, all four (4) members went on to successful careers themselves. That's rare as f#ck.

Paul McCartney - Band on the Run

Ring Starr - It Don’t Come Easy

George Harrison - Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)

John Lennon - Imagine

And for those who don't know, John Lennon was shot and killed in NYC in 1980.

The Beatles literally changed the music peoples were listening, no other music group ever did that in 50 years (Elvis wasn't a group)
Not gonna lie but the "Butter" song goes hard.

"Smooth like butter like criminal undercover." <3

Poppy. Those dudes are pretty and full of fashion. Well made videos too. I could easily dance to it. Nice energy.

And how about Blackpink - Pink Venom - for the ladies side of K-Pop:

Lol, no.

Since time immemorial I've heard the old tagline "bigger and better than the Beatles". And every time that phrase is uttered it NEVER happens.
.

All I can think of is the time Terrence Trent Darby said his album was the best thing since Sgt. Peppers.

We know how that worked out.

Cheers - I always loved DJing. Can't do it now thanks to disability, of course, but that doesn't stop me fiddling around and mixing stuff together for a hobby. Or remixing. Love doing those things.

One of my favourite little things was watching as people came in the door and trying to evaluate what sort of music they liked and adjusting my setlist for them about 15 minutes down the line after they'd had a drink and got settled.

As for Rishikesh - frankly that's awesome! Shame it's in a mess, as I'd heard that too. But hey, you got to see it.

PLus I love the White Album. I had mixed feelings about it in the 70s and 80s but grew to like it. It's one hell of a diverse album.

It must be such a rush to feel the energy in a room like that. Everyone is digging your music, dancing, gettin' down, and having a good time. I love it when a DJ nails song after song.

Cheers.

That is indeed the best thing in the world. I had on the rare occasions I played in a couple of bands too.

Nailing the right tune after say midnight on new year and watching people go mad was sublime.
