An invincible tin man. Withstand anything. Death spell included.
If the game has more engaging inventory + drop system that requires heavy repeat engagments ill go for a glass cannon
The topic reminds me of the Imperial Agent class in SWTOR.
But if given the option, I'll usually pick defense over damage output. A good defense is a good offense.
In some games, it works great...
For others, it doesn't matter how much DPS you can do all at once if half the match is waiting for your respawn or sitting it out. At that point, the tank is doing more damage overall in many cases.
Usually, I like playing engineer and technical "summoner" types that are a bit more on the tanky side and often have turrets or pets and such to increase damage.
Hell yeah, brother!

Well, she's never called me, so...
Like in my current playthrough of Neverwinter Nights 2. I normally don't roll divine casters, but I decided I wanted to play a Sacred Fist. So I've got a Stoutheart Halfling Monk/Cleric/Sacred Fist who is effectively a combination of DEX Tank and support caster.
It's surprisingly fun, even if Monk as a class is MAD and I'm having to play an alignment I don't normally go with - Lawful Good - because that's what suits a Cleric of Tyr. I was going through initially with a Human Monk/Wizard/Pale Master but apparently with how Obsidian implemented one of my favorite prestige classes Pale Masters don't get additional CL.
Unless you use mods, which I'm not this playthrough. Outside of the obligatory Jade Empire fix that also works with Neverwinter Nights 2. The one that fixes choppy animations when you leave your PC on for too long.
Course like I said, nine times out of ten I roll Wizard - at least some kind of Wizard, even if it's a specialist like an Abjurer or an Evoker, or some multiclass hybrid like the aforementioned Monk/Wizard/Pale Master or something else like Wizard/Ranger/Arcane Archer or Wizard/Druid/Mystic Theurge or Wizard/Psion/Cerebremancer.
Hell, one of the most fun playthroughs I had of Shadows of Undrentide was with a Gnome Illusionist/Shadowdancer. Course the first game gives you more of an incentive to pick a Rogue or Sorcerer because Pixies can pick locks and disable traps and you can take them as familiars - where as the only familiar I've seen who can do that in the second game is Safiya's familiar in Mask of the Betrayer.
Kaji is too pure for this world. He's like Deekin, in that he's a good boy whose smile should be protected.
Now as for MMOs, I've actually had more fun playing a tank than a glass cannon. But then again the only MMOs I've played as of late which made me want to play in traffic the least were ones like Neverwinter Online and The Elder Scrolls Online - which are both garbage games with reprehensible communities, developers and publishers and should be summarily put to pasture - but at the very least playing a tank in them can be fun.
Just don't play either or if you like life as they'll make you hate it.
as the tank I lead the party a role I like. I kick screwups.. so experience is bettet.
tankbuild is also only one that can solo enemies no other classcan.
but i call personal carrier as I always have healing as dual skill.. or bring healing scrolls.. this means my hp and aggro ability is a bit less but also that in a pinch I can aid the healer.. or allow a teamwhipe.. but keep myself alive and than rez the team.
dps I care little for thats where others are for and as long as I can stay alive perpetual by high hp + selfheal.. i just chop down anything slowly over time..
-a true healer I find too stressfull a task.. as. EACH wipe and death is blamed on you while some tanks act really unpredictable and many a dps just barge in with 0 self preservation.
basicly you must constantly cover others screwups as healer.. not a nice task.
-dps is not my thing.. I often do meh dps.. due my spec.. and than people go complain.. if I must play dps I usually go for a support role.. like casting buffs and debuffs on my teammates so my less high dps is forgiven.
